■Northampton’s Three County Fair was shrouded with rain clouds and drizzle most of Wednesday, but 6,522 hearty souls paid admission at the gates nonetheless. Although this was 1,000 less than Wednesday of last year, fair officials felt that considering the weather, it was a good crowd indeed.
■Ronald Jex, manager, J.J. Newberry Co., has been elected chairman of the Downtown Merchants Association. Richard Hurteau, manager, MacDonald Shoes, was elected vice chairman-in-charge of promotions, and William Lamprey, personal loan manager, Northampton Institution for Savings, was elected vice chairman-in-charge of budgets.
■The Northampton City Council has appointed two new members to the Planning Board: Anne V. Romano and Paul Diemand. The appointments were submitted by Mayor Mary L. Ford and were confirmed by the council on Thursday.
■The woman who says she was asked to leave a courtroom for breastfeeding her baby plans to try to get a state law passed that would prohibit similar requests. Connie Forcier, 26, of Northampton, said she wants a law passed so that “we can exercise our right to breast-feed.”
