■A total of 350 bicycles are thus far unclaimed at Smith College. The bikes, left behind by students from last year, may be reunited with their owners Sept. 22, “Claim Day,” at the college. Any which remain unclaimed will be auctioned off on Sept. 23.
■An all-time Saturday attendance record was shattered at the Three County Fair when 15,140 patrons went through the turnstiles to climax one of the most successful fairs in history. That most of them came for the races was apparent from the whopping $619,784 pushed through the mutuel windows to nudge the week’s handle over the three million dollar mark for the first time.
■Supporters of the Domestic Partnership Ordinance have shaped a two-day schedule of music, dance and readings this month to jumpstart a campaign for the measure. The point, they say, is to mix politics with pleasure — and raise some money to boot.
■Pioneer Valley Grower’s Association Sales Manager Robert Readding says the drought is forcing an increase in prices from last year. As a result of the drought reducing the crop yield for local growers, wholesale grocers have been forced to sell produce at a higher cost.
