HOLYOKE — After receiving calls from residents reporting a loud explosion on Friday afternoon, city police say they have made no determination as to what might have happened.
“Did anyone feel/hear that loud explosion?! Off of Jarvis Ave…” one person wrote in a Holyoke Facebook group called “Hello Holyoke!!! The Community Forum” around 1 p.m.
In the comments, people from all over the area — including Southampton, South Hadley and Chicopee — reported hearing or feeling the mysterious event.
Holyoke Police Lt. James Albert said that city police did get calls about the reported activity. But “it went unfounded” after officers checked areas along the mountain and northern section of the city, he said.
“We have no determination of what occurred,” he said.
Some on Facebook noted that the noise occurred on Friday the 13th.
“Probably unleashed some demon or something,” one person wrote. “Just roll with it.”
