■When the Gazette photographer went out to take a warm weather picture yesterday he really needed the assurance given by a soft drink delivery truck passing by. The slogan was “It’s the Real Thing” and it was hard to believe the temperature reading on the bank sign was for real. But yesterday was the warmest Dec. 2 in the city’s history, with some places reporting higher than the 66 degrees on the bank sign.

■John T. Feeney, principal of Northampton High School, this week told members of the School Committee that a “crisis situation” exists in his office and requested immediate additional clerical help to relieve the situation. “I need someone immediately who can take the pressure off,” Feeney said. “Never in all my 14 years of office have I been in this position.”

■Recognized in 1992 as one of the state’s three official political forces, the Libertarian Party is beginning to emerge in Northampton — although an organizer concedes he has a long way to go. James Robinson has submitted nomination papers to the Board of Registrar of Voters to form the city’s first Libertarian Ward Committee.

■John Breguet, 91, of Haydenville died today at the home of his daughter in East Longmeadow. Mr. Breguet served as a Hampshire County commissioner for 12 years, and as commission chairman for seven years, and was Williamsburg’s town moderator for 45 years, retiring in 1982.

■Despite agreement with research showing that a later start time at Northampton High School would be a clear benefit to students, the slew of scheduling problems that would accompany the switch was enough to deter a decision among Curriculum Subcommittee members Thursday night. The committee said they were uncomfortable moving forward with plans to make the half-hour change and would rather continue the discussion with the nine-member School Committee as a whole.

■Seventeen people were injured Friday afternoon when a tour bus carrying members of the UMass Amherst Ski and Board Club rolled over and slid off Interstate 91 in Putney, Vermont. The driver, who may have suffered a heart attack, was airlifted by helicopter to the trauma center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H.
