CHESTERFIELD — Residents in Chesterfield and Goshen can continue using free state-sponsored outdoor Wi-Fi hot spots through next June.
The Massachusetts Broadband Institute launched the free wireless hot spot program last spring to help communities in the pandemic that are unserved by high-speed internet.
MBI Chairman Peter Larkin said the program is being extended as the pandemic continues throughout Massachusetts. This is the second time the program has been extended this year, and it will continue to June 30.
In addition to Chesterfield and Goshen, the hotspots were also set up in Worthington and Cummington. The program won’t be extended in those communities because they are set to have high-speed internet projects completed by the end of the year, the MBI said. However, should the projects not be completed, the hot spots would stay live.
Chesterfield’s hot spot is at the town offices on 422 Main Road, while Goshen’s is located at the town office at 40 Main St. Additionally, the two towns are eligible for the creation of indoor Wi-Fi hot spots, which have yet to be established.
All of the hot spots are free to use.
