EASTHAMPTON — A 37-year-old Northampton woman was listed in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after being struck by a vehicle while snowblowing a Brook Street driveway earlier in the week.
The woman was hit Wednesday at 11:17 a.m., prompting a response from Easthampton Police and Easthampton Fire and EMS personnel. She was brought by ambulance to Baystate with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
A preliminary investigation by the department’s accident reconstruction team revealed that a 45-year-old Easthampton man operating a Nissan sport utility vehicle lost control of the vehicle and struck the woman at the edge of the road.
Transported by ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for evaluation, the driver is cooperating with police, and the incident remains under investigation by Easthampton Police, Massachusetts State Police and the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said no additional information or updates about the incident were available Friday.
A call to Easthampton Police Chief Robert Alberti was not immediately returned.
