■In obedience to a warrant of the selectmen to me directed, I do hereby notify the freeholders and other inhabitants of Northampton, qualified to vote in the election of town officers, and also those who are qualified to vote in other town affairs, to assemble at the courthouse in said town, on the 19th day of March current, at 9 o’clock A.M. to elect town officers for the year ensuing. — Joseph Hutchens, constable.

■Lester Laccas of Locust Street, conductor on the Northampton Street Railway, has been promoted to night dispatcher at the car barns and began his new duties yesterday. He succeeds William J. Wade, who is to take a position in the shoe department of Steiger’s store in Springfield.
■The Court Square Vulcanizing company, Reo J. Bernier and Walter M O’Brien, proprietors, opened a tire repair and vulcanizing establishment in the basement of the Rubber store on Gothic Street today. Both young men have had extensive experience in their line and have a bright future before them.
■Smith College associate professor of biological sciences Sanat Majumder has published a new book, “The Drama of Man and Nature.” Written for college freshmen and students whose major fields of study lie outside the life sciences, the book aims at offering aid to readers who wish to develop comprehensive, well-informed views of environmental issues and ethics.
■Ely Chinoy of Northampton has been selected by the U.S. State Department to participate in its international educational and cultural exchange program for one month during the next academic year, U.S. Rep. Silvio O. Conte and Sen. Edward W. Brooks announced today. Chinoy is a professor at Smith College.
