Mother Nature has been one of the only things capable of slowing down the Valley Blue Sox recently.

The club sits second in the NECBL Southern Division standings with a 13-8 record entering Wednesday, but their recent slate of games have been heavily impacted by weather. Four of the team’s previous six games were postponed as a result, including Tuesday night’s tilt against Bristol.

The team will finally get back to the field, weather permitting, Thursday night when it hosts the Southern-leading Newport Gulls at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke at 6:35 p.m. The night will feature a 9 Innings of Winning promotion, where a prize will be raffled off to a randomly drawn fan every inning.

On Sunday, the Blue Sox will host the Ocean State Waves at 5:05 p.m. for Fan Appreciation Night. All game tickets will be $2 off and hot dogs will be buy one, get one free throughout the game. There will also be a 2021 baseball card giveaway.

In addition to the promotion, the Northampton High School and Hopkins Academy baseball teams, who won Western Mass. titles in their respective divisions, will also be honored on Sunday.

The two canceled games from this past week have been rescheduled to July 22 (Bristol) and July 25 (Danbury).

Brian Hart of the Blue Sox leads the NECBL in home runs (7) and is tied for third in RBIs (17). Pitcher Ryan Towle, who hails from Westfield, is second in the league with a 0.96 ERA in 18 2/3 innings.
