Max Brown scored two goals, as the Granby boys soccer team bested Hopkins Academy 3-1 on Wednesday in Hadley.

Rams keeper Daniel Gauvin stopped five shots, including a penalty kick.

Liam Brown had the third Granby goal, and Ben Berger, Colin Murdock and Roman Bullock each added an assist.

Patrick Fitzgibbons scored the Golden Hawks’ goal assisted by Colin Earle. Hopkins Academy’s Ryder Gallo O’Connell made five saves and also stopped a penalty.

Easthampton 9, Mahar 2 – Carter Daughdrill distributed five assists and added a goal, as the Eagles cruised on the road. Carter Hebert scored three goals in the first half and had an assist in the second. Ethan Marowitz collected a second-half hat trick.

Javier Simms (assist), Mateo Navarro and Mathieu Soucy each found the net once.

Griffin Fosket made nine saves for the Eagles.

PVCICS 9, Mohawk Trail 0 – Gavin Gilburg put away four goals and distributed an assist in a road win for the Dragons. Teddy Scott netted a hat trick and had two assists.

Seb English had an asisst in the first half and saved one shot in goal in the second. Robbie Hayes, James Aas and Nolan Gage each contributed an assist for PVCICS.

Gateway 4, Putnam 1 – Ryan Keach had two goals at home for the Gators. Ryan Morin contributed a goal and an assist. Landon Richard also scored unassisted.

Gateway put away three goal in the first half.

Gators keeper Preston Coffey made seven saves.

Smith Voke 2, Franklin Tech 1 — A rocket by Viking John Peters from 40 yards out in the 54th minute turned out to be the game winner, as Smith Voke beat the Eagles, 2-1, on Thursday in Turners. Rosco Palmer opened the scoring in the 47th minute for the Vikings, but Franklin Tech tied it up two minutes later as David Klempner found the back of the net off an assist from Ari Wiles.

Belchertown 3, Amherst 0 – Dominic Mancuso found the net and added an assist, as the Orioles opened the season with a home win Tuesday. Kaden Houle and Hunter LePage scored a goal each. Carson Boscher and Shay O’Neil delivered an assist each for Belchertown. 

Jacob Chaisson stopped three shots to keep the clean sheet.

The Orioles outshot Amherst 16-3.

Gateway 3, Taconic 2 – Landon Richards netted the Gators game-winner in the 88th minute at Berkshire Community College on Tuesday from Ryan Morin.

 Ayden Audet put away a corner kick in the eighth minute to put Gateway ahead to start. Shane Cooper converted a penalty in the 46th minute.

Gateway’s Preston Coffey  saved eight shots.

Girls soccer

South Hadley 3, West Springfield 1 – Freshman Jordyn Balint scored her first career goal in the first five minutes to set the tone for the young Tigers in a home win.

“It gets us to a good start, it’s exciting and the adrenaline starts rushing and we pick it up more,” she said.

Salle Waite added another tally 10 minutes later from senior captain Elyse Manzi.

The Terriers found the net with 20 seconds remaining in the first half to cut the lead to one, but it didn’t dull South Hadley’s momentum. Lauren Marjanski, another freshman, scored less than four minutes into the second half form Balint to keep West Side at bay.

“That’s what we talked about at halftime was answering that second goal. It was a totally different ball game with that third goal,” South Hadley coach Rich Marjanski said.

Tigers keeper Rylee Suchinez saved five shots.

Agawam 4, Hampshire 1 – Ella Forest buried a goal from Brie Salomao midway through the second half to get the Raiders within one, but Agawam scored twice in the final 20 minutes to snag the 4-1 win Wednesday night.

Makena Rogalski and Delaney Cantwell combined for 12 saves in the Hampshire net.

Granby 3, Ware 1 – Briana Sosa found the net twice, as the Rams won on the road Tuesday.

Arianna Klekotka also scored, while Kelly Lynn Kennedy had an assist. Gabby Walz made three saves for Granby.

Field hockey

Frontier 2, Minnechaug 2 — Through two games, the Frontier field hockey team is showing quite well against their new leaguemates.

The Redhawks followed up Monday’s impressive win over Agawam with a 2-2 tie against Minnechaug in a Suburban League tussle on the road in Wilbraham on Wednesday.

“The girls should be very pleased,” Frontier coach Missy Mahar said. “They played really well. They executed their passing game, and left everything on the field.”

Frontier (1-0-1) received goals from Emily DeMaio and Shelby Clark in Wednesday’s tie, and each assisted on the other’s tally. Ella Flanders finished with five saves. Frontier outshot the Falcons, 9-7.

The difficult opening week schedule continues Friday when the Hawks host Longmeadow in South Deerfield.

South Hadley 2, Agawam 2 – Gabby Moroney tied the game in the fourth quarter with a goal.

Jenna Hobert had two assists for the Tigers on the road. South Hadley accumulated 12 corners to Agawam’s two.

Ashley Scott also found the net.

Kaitlyn Lynes saved four shots.

The Tigers trailed 2-1 at the half.

Athol 3, Amherst 2 – Sophie Sweeting and Caitlin MacDougall each scored one goal for the Hurricanes at home. Amherst goalie McKenzie Schreyer made 12 saves.

Girls volleyball

Smith Vocational 3, Renaissance 0 – Heidelex Cordova fired 13 aces and pulled up eight digs for the Vikings in a 25-8, 25-19, 25-9 victory.

Jordan Dunham also had 10 digs and three kills, while Jaycee Beaulieu contributed three kills and three assists. 

Golf

Greenfield 13.5, Easthampton 10.5 – Tanner Kmetz, Mikey Thompson and Connor Perreault each won matches for the Eagles in a home loss at Holyoke Country Club.

Kmetz (52) bested Matt Lavoine 3-1, while Thompson (50) won 3-1 over Hugh Cyhowski.

Perreault (58) prevailed 3.5-0.5 against Luke Scotera.
