■New townhouse apartments are proposed for the corner of Meadow and Spring streets in Florence by the Eastfield Development Corp. of Springfield. The $3 million development would include 56 one-bedroom, 126 two-bedroom and 30 three-bedroom apartments.

■The Northampton Redevelopment Authority voted to use all legal means to evict Henry and Rose Kubosiak from their home on the site of the Northampton industrial park. The Authority took possession of the Kubosiak property in August 1970, six months after officially informing the Kubosiaks that their property would become part of the new industrial park. They couple has yet to move out.

■The tea house where Annie Childs once entertained afternoon guests is ready to play hostess again. After a summer of roofing repairs and painting, the Italianate masonry building at Childs Park is gleaming and graffiti is nowhere in sight.

■Forbes Library received a major gift this week, once again from a longtime friend and admirer. Rosamond “Roddy” Chester, a life-long Northampton resident who died in 1995, left the library half her estate — $176,000. Chester worked at Woodward & Grinnell Insurance Agency until retiring in 1990, at which point she began volunteering regularly in the Coolidge Room of the Forbes Library.

■For over an hour Wednesday afternoon, more than 100 people, primarily University of Massachusetts students, rallied on the Town Common to air their grievances with corporations, the government and other institutions. The first “Occupy Amherst” event was part of a nationwide student walkout, modeled after the ongoing Occupy Wall Street protests in New York, which participants hope will lead to dramatic changes in society.

■The city of Easthampton and the Catholic Church are at odds over $67,000 in property tax payments. The city is seeking to tax two church buildings the Springfield Diocese closed in 2010, saying they no longer qualify as tax-exempt property. The church maintains that the buildings remain in use for church-related activities.
