Adam Flaherty, Francisco Climent, Liam Brown and Tyler Sudsbury all buried penalty kicks, lifting the No. 14th-seeded Granby boys soccer team into the MIAA Div. 5 Round of 16 on Saturday.
The Rams outlasted No. 19 Boston International, 4-3, in PKs after the teams were locked in a 2-2 game after 80 minutes and two scoreless overtime sessions.
Granby (14-3-1) advanced to play at No. 3 Douglas on Wednesday night in the Round of 16.
Sudsbury and Brown tallied in regulation for the Rams, with Gavin Moreno nabbing an assist.
Granby goalie Daniel Gauvin made five saves, including a pair of stops in penalty kicks.
Frontier 4, Abington 1 – The goals came early and often for the Redhawks in its first MIAA Div. 4 tournament game.
The No. 5 Redhawks scored three first half goals to pave the way to a 4-1 victory over No. 29 Abington in the Round of 32 on Saturday in South Deerfield.
Frontier moves on to host Burke in the Round of 16.
“It doesn’t matter what the number next to your name or their name is, anything can happen in these games,” Redhawk coach Evan Horton said. “We were happy to play someone we don’t know but we don’t know this team. It was good for us. The boys were able to get up for the idea of playing an unknown and knowing we have to be on our feet the whole game because we don’t know what they’re going to throw at us.”
Tyler Dubreuil opened the scoring for Frontier (13-2-4) in the third minute off an assist from Brady Burch.
Abington tied it in the 20th minute but Devin Niles gave the Redhawks the lead back two minutes later off a dish from Burch. Frontier struck again in the 24th minute, this off the foot of Burch with the assist going to Matt Sicard. Fernando Saravia tallied an insurance goal in the 64th minute that put Frontier ahead, 4-1.
Masconomet 6, Northampton 0 – Alex Caldonaro stopped seven shots, and Koa Klose made four saves Saturday, as the Blue Devils Division 2 tournament run ended in the Round of 32.
Brady McDonald and Jimmy Galvin created chances for No. 34 Northampton, but the Blue Devils couldn’t convert on the North Shore.
Hampshire 5, Ipswich 0 – Aidan Miklasiewicz (assist) and Grady Fern had two goals each, and the No. 1 Raiders began the Division 4 tournament with a dominant win at home Saturday.
Owen Millar also scored, while Sam Barnes, Matt Solan and Dan Martin each added an assist.
The Raiders earned 10 corner kicks compared to one for the No. 32 Tigers. Hampshire will host No. 16 Hamilton-Wenham in the second round at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Keefe Tech 3, Smith Academy 2 (2OT) – Gabriel Motta tapped home the game winner in double OT to lift No. 11 Keefe Tech past No. 22 Smith Academy in the Div. 5 Round of 32.
Smith’s goals came from Logan Graves, who hit a shot in the 24th minute that a Keefe defender headed, and Roger Grondin who buried a 63rd-minute tally from JJ Kroll. Ryan Belina played well in the Falcons’ net with 17 saves.
It was the final game for SA seniors Grondin, Wyatt Jeffress, Kroll and Will Dobson.
Belchertown 1, Old Rochester 0 – Macie Bolton delivered a first-half winner for the No. 5 Orioles at home Saturday. Alexa LaFlamme assisted the play.
Belchertown remained undefeated and will host No. 21 Norton at 6 p.m. in the Division 3 second round. The Lancers upset No. 12 Apponequet on Saturday.
Ursuline 7, South Hadley 2 – Lauren Marjanski scored twice for the No. 10 Tigers, which fell to No. 23 Ursuline on Saturday in the Div. 3 Round of 32.
South Hadley trailed 3-1 at halftime. Elyse Manzi and Maddie Soderbaum delivered assists, while goalies Rylee Suchenicz (seven saves) and Drew Alley (five) split time between the pipes.
David Prouty 3, Frontier 0 — Eliana Barnett had herself a game for the Panthers.
Barnett scored twice to lead No. 12 Prouty to a 3-0 win in the Division 5 state tournament on Saturday, knocking the No. 21 Redhawks out in the Round of 32.
Barnett tallied in the first half to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Olivia Pepin and Barnett scored in the second half for Prouty. CC Green made four saves for Frontier (9-8-3) in the loss.
Lenox 4, Hopkins 0 – Cassidy Fyden stopped nine shots in net for the Golden Hawks in a Div. 5 Round of 32 loss Saturday in the Berkshires.
Melrose 3, Amherst 0 – Annabel Ogden distributed 10 assists, as the No. 28 Hurricanes fell 25-8, 25-5, 25-13 in the Division 2 round of 32 on Saturday.
Amherst couldn’t generate much offense against the fifth-seeded Red Raiders on the road.
Delany MacPhetres and four kills, while Molly Wysocki added three.
Audrey Bowen made three blocks. Liza Beigel pulled up nine digs.
