■Mr. James H. Clapp, of Belchertown, killed on the 13th of Nov. last, a calf, five months and twenty days old, which weighed, after hanging over night, four hundred and sixteen pounds. Said calf had no other keeping than what he obtained by running in the pasture with the cow.
■The Springfield brewery will pay cash for barley, and the highest price will be paid for that delivered soon.

■A 200-pound buck, with 13 points on its antlers, and shot by Joseph Diemand of Florence on Horse Mountain yesterday, was on exhibition today at Curran’s market, where it attracted considerable attention.
■A large number of young people were skating on Paradise Pond today. They reported the ice as being solid and the skating fine. If this weather lasts over Sunday, Paradise Pond will be a popular place tomorrow.

■Miss Diana E. Fetter, formerly of New York City, has been named news director at Smith College. A graduate of Miss Hall’s School, Pittsfield, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955 from Smith College. From 1955 to 1965, she was a researcher-reporter for Life Magazine.
■The U.S. Soil Conservation Service has recommended the construction of three dams on the Mill River. One is on the East Branch of the Mill River, one is at Graham Pond on the West Branch and the third is on the site of the Roberts Meadow Reservoir in Northampton.
