I live on Williams Street, a block from the proposed multi-unit building that is generating the letters about how bad it would be for the neighborhood.

I walked over to see what all the fuss is about. There’s a large lawn and a house in a state of disrepair. This is what the letter writers are trying to save?

There is a housing shortage in our town and our country and adding density in downtown-adjacent areas is part of the solution. The location is right by downtown, the train station, the bike paths and a Route 91 exit and exactly where we should welcome more housing.

Our neighborhood is already a mix of houses and apartment buildings. I don’t understand the outrage. I’d much rather someone build over one tree on my block (though truly mostly lawn) than destroy a swath of forest or farmland because it’s the path of least resistance. I love our neighborhood and I’d welcome more neighbors to be able to enjoy it!
