South Hadley senior Gabi Moroney joined the 100-point club in her second sport Tuesday, as the Tigers girls lacrosse team bested Hampshire Regional 25-5 at home.
She contributed three goals and three assists to the victory. Moroney also netted her 100th point for South Hadley’s field hockey team in the fall.
Meghan Carey finished with four goals and four assists.
Ella Marion led the Tigers with six goals and chipped in an assist.
Margaret Watkins notched four goals and two assists, while Erica Anderson scored a hat trick for South Hadley.
South Hadley’s Olivia Marion (two goals) and Jodryn Balint distributed three assists each.
Madelyn McArdle, Kacie Levrault and Raquel Losty (assist) each found the net once for the Tigers.
South Hadley Goalie Evelyn Gingras stopped six shots.
Sam Morgan put away two goals for Hampshire, while Emma Archambault, Summer Duda and Skylar Duda each scored one. Raiders goalie Abby Hennessey saved seven shots.
Northampton 4, Belchertown 1 – Louisa Diaz and Summer Sorensen saw the singles matches play out in the Western Massachusetts Class B semifinals in Belchertown. The third-seeded Blue Devils’ No. 1 doubles pair watched No. 1 singles teammate Jeanne Mei Marion Larouche walk off with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ava Shea and No. 3 singles player Daria Warren best Ellie Gelinas 6-1, 6-1.
Diaz and Sorensen had match point at No. 2 doubles against Alena Krabestos and Emalee Chaisson
“I was like wow ‘we gotta put this away.’ You gotta do what you gotta do and put it away and win the match,” Sorensen said.
They closed the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win on an emphatic slam at the net. The Blue Devils (10-6) will face No. 1 Ludlow in the sectional final at a time and place to be determined.
Northampton No. 2 singles player Camille Richmond followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Amber Drummond.
No. 2 Belchertown picked up its point at No. 1 doubles. Brooke Burrows and Kasey Gibbons won 7-5, 6-2 over Roxie Clauson and Sarah Ryan.
The Orioles (11-6) are the No. 20 team in the Division 3 state bracket currently and will await their state tournament seeding. The top 32 teams plus all teams above .500 earn a spot in the field.
PVCICS 5, St. Mary’s 0 – The top-seeded Dragons downed the No. 4 Saints for the third time this season and will now play in the Western Massachusetts Class C championship match for the first time.
PVCICS (14-1) will face No. 3 Lee in the title match on May 31 at a time and place to be determined.
PVCICS No. 1 singles player Aidan Cleary took down Jon Baillargeon 6-2, 6-2. Hugo Shinn won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles over Matt Sabat.
James Scott prevailed 6-1, 6-1 over Evan Durkee at No. 3 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Teddy Scott and Clayton English took down Nate Campbell and Ben Howes 6-1, 6-0. The No. 2 pair of Devan Ye and Derek Ye won 6-2, 6-2 against Michael Mason and Aiden Fitzgibbons to round out the scoring.
Hopkins Academy 5, Lee 4 – Cassie Dion struck out seven in the circle, and the fourth-seeded Golden Hawks earned a spot in the Class D semifinals with a 5-4 win over No. 5 Lee on Tuesday in Hadley.
The Hawks will play at No. 1 Turners Falls on Thursday night at 7 p.m. with a spot in the sectional final on the line.
Hopkins was led offensively by Brooke Rochon, who smacked three doubles and four RBIs. Lily Ellia singled and doubled to aid the attack.
Hopkins led 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth and held on.
Agawam 26, Amherst 4 (5) – The No. 7 Hurricanes fell in their postseason return on the road in the Class A quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Mt. Everett 8, Smith Academy 0 – Hunter DeGrenier kept the Smith Academy lineup at bay on Tuesday. The Mt. Everett ace struck out nine and tossed a no-hitter for the Eagles in a Class D quarterfinal victory in Sheffield.
Michael Ullrich’s three-run double in the fifth inning broke open a 3-0 game.
Mount Everett will head to play at No. 1 Granby in the semifinals on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
