■Miss Patricia Ann Hogan, Northampton’s own, will travel to Attleboro Tuesday where she will spend a week vying for the Miss Massachusetts title. The attractive coed was chosen Miss Northampton last spring. She adjusted to spotlights, crowds, hours of practice and stiff competition with the ease of a professional and now looks forward with confidence to the state level contest.

■The sale of Slattery’s Inn to William J. Sargis was approved last night at a meeting of the Northampton License Commission. In answer to a question from commissioner Rene Joly, Sargis said that at present he plans no changes in the operation of the tavern, which is located on Main Street in Florence. “I’m just going to feel it out as I go,” Sargis said.

■Superintendent of Schools Bruce Willard says he hopes to name by July 22 an interim principal to serve one year at Northampton High School while a search is re-opened to find a permanent head of the school who would start work next July. That search will be the third round in the effort to replace Gordon Noseworthy who resigned a year ago.

■The state is marshalling its economic redevelopment forces in an attempt to prevent Summit Plastics Solutions Inc. from going out of business. Steven Victor, the interim chief financial officer of the firm, said this week that the debt-ridden company may file for bankruptcy or even close, eliminating jobs for approximately 200 people.

■After serving the community since 1849, the post office in West Chesterfield will close next month. While the post office has moved around over the years, for the past 20 years it has been housed in what used to be the old town library. Closing the post office, which serves 72 customers, has been talked about for years.

■The Southampton native who competed for love on ABC’s “The Bachelor” last year will be back on TV this month in a spin-off show. But instead of a hunk, the prize is $250,000. Rachel Truehart, 27, who now lives in New York City, was one of 20 contestants on the third season of “Bachelor Pad,” which taped earlier this summer.
