WORTHINGTON — The Town Democratic Committee’s Sundays with the Candidates series will continue this Sunday with Governor’s Council candidates Shawn Allyn and Michael Fenton.
Allyn, a Holyoke lawyery, and Fenton, a Springfield lawyer and city councilor, are running for the Democratic nomination for the 8th District councilor position. The two other candidates for the nomination, Tara Jacobs, who serves on the North Adams School Committee, and Jeffrey Morneau, a East Longmeadow lawyer, were at the previous Sundays with the Candidates on July 10.
This weekend’s event will begin at 2 p.m. and will take place over Zoom, with Allyn and Morneau each being allotted 45 minutes.
The event is open to all western Massachusetts residents, and those interested in attending and receiving the Zoom link can email Worthingtondem@gmail.com.
The eight-member Governor’s Council is charged with advising the governor and approving or rejecting the governor’s appointments for judicial and other positions, as well as pardons and commutations, and warrants for the state treasury.
The 8th District covers most of western Massachusetts and all of Hampshire County with the exception of Ware.
This year’s Democratic primary is set for Sept. 6, with early voting taking place from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2. The registration deadline to participate in the primary is Aug. 27, while the vote by mail application deadline is Aug. 29.
On the Republican side, only John Comerford, a Palmer resident and former veterans service officer, is running at this time for the 8th District seat.
