A dominant performance in the distance events propelled the Amherst boys to an impressive performance in the early session of PVIAC Indoor Track Meet No. 4 on Sunday at Smith College in Northampton.

Junior Kyle Yanko took first place in the 1-mile, crossing with a winning time of 4 minutes, 53 seconds, while classmate and teammate David Pinero-Jacome captured the 2-mile victory inย 10:31 for the Hurricanes.

Amherst sophomore Logan Alfandari took first place in the shot put (44-5.25), and the โ€™Canes 4×400-relay team also crossed first.

Frontierโ€™s Ben Cachiguango rounded out the local winners in the early session, as he captured the 55-meter hurdles (8.90).

Blue Devils dominate late session

Camilla Brewer won three events for Northampton in the late session, as the Blue Devils were dominant across the board in both the boys and girls meets on Sunday.

Brewer, a sophomore, was the winner of the long jump, high jump and 55-meter hurdles to set the table for Northampton. Seniors Anna Zamerย (1-mile) and Norah Reade (600) each won events for โ€™Hamp, and the teamโ€™s 4×400 relay also took home first.

Williston results

Jack Williamson scored 22 points to lift the Williston Northampton School boysย basketball team to an 68-61 overtime victory against Notre Dame Westhaven Postgradย during HoopHall Prep Classic action on Saturday in Springfield.

Elsewhere, Willistonโ€™s girls basketball team fell to Cushing, 51-41, despite 11 points apiece from Meghan Carey and Kristen Tremblay.

Theย girls hockey team upped its record to 13-0 with a 5-1 win over Frederick Gunn at Lossone.ย Violet Carroll and Zola Piekarski each scored twice and senior Emily Crovoย also scored for the Wildcats.

The boys hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Berkshire despite goals from Riley Van Son and Felix-Antoine Bouchard.

The girls varsity squash team fell to Milbrook, 7-0.
