Sunderland Bridge work starts Monday

SUNDERLAND — Work on the Sunderland Bridge that carries Route 116 traffic over the Connecticut River connecting Sunderland and Deerfield is scheduled to begin Monday.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said the work will involve deck repair and resurfacing of the road. Alternating one-way traffic will be in place on Monday and Tuesday, as crews conduct setup work. Following the conclusion of setup work, two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. Drivers should expect a new traffic pattern to be in place, with work expected to conclude in the fall.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted by unforeseen circumstances such as an emergency.
