A four-run bottom of the first inning propelled Northampton Post 28 to a 9-4 victory over Westfield in an American Legion Senior Division contest on Thursday night at Arcanum Field in Northampton.
Andrew Gagne smacked a three-run double and knocked in four runs for Post 28 (8-5).
Trey Kuzmeski added an RBI double and scored three runs, while Griffin Smiarowski and Elijah Rubinstein had two hits each and scored two runs in the win.
Kuzmeski, Rubinstein and Asher Garretson combined on the mound, allowing four hits over seven innings. Rubinstein got the win, going three innings allowing two hits and one earned run.
Northampton is back in action Friday night at North Adams (5:45 p.m.)

Danbury 14, Valley Blue Sox 8 – In Game 1 of a doubleheader on Thursday, Danbury used a nine-run bottom of the fourth inning to secure a victory at Rogers Park in Danbury, Conn.
Despite the loss, the Blue Sox clubbed four home runs – including two from Jonathan Hogart. Logan Hugo and Connor Misch also went yard for Valley.
Game 2 finished after print deadline. The Blue Sox are 13-14 on the season.
