Allen Woods’ guest column “Who loves the Electoral College?” [Gazette, Aug. 5] made a number of important points as to why the Electoral College is an anti-democratic and out-of-date institution that is in serious need of reform or elimination.

Jesse Wegman’s book, ““Let the People Pick the President,” published in 2021, can provide even more reasons the Electoral College needs to go. The book also provides information about states and organizations that are fairly close to finishing a state-by-state solution to neutralizing the effect of the Electoral College without having to initiate a constitutional amendment.

After reading this book, I am convinced that the Electoral College has a significant negative effect on presidential elections. The country will be better off when it is gone. Hooray for Woods for forwarding his thoughts on this issue.
