
AMHERST — Live entertainment, games of chance, food prepared by award-winning UMass Amherst Dining chefs and much more will be part of the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s New Year’s Eve party on Tuesday in the Student Union Ballroom.
The theme is the Roaring ‘20s, and guests are encouraged to come dressed in Great Gatsby-era fashions or other elegant attire.
Master of ceremonies will be meteorologist Brian Lapis of 22News. Attendees can dance to the sounds of the Hipshot Band, try their hands at casino-inspired games of chance, feast on a buffet prepared by UMass chefs, then raise a glass to 2025 with a champagne toast as the clock strikes midnight.
The event begins in the Student Union Ballroom with cocktails from 7 to 8 p.m., then dinner will be available starting at 8 p.m. General attendance tickets are $85 per person. A full experience package, which includes two event tickets and a room for the night at Hotel UMass, is $275. Tickets for children 12 or under are $35 per child. Optional rooms at Hotel UMass will be offered for registrants for $150 for the night.

NORTHAMPTON — The Polish Heritage Committee of Northampton is sponsoring its Annual Polish Christmas Carol Sing Along on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m., at St. Valentine Polish National Catholic Church, 127 King St.
All friends of Polonia are invited to attend. The carols will be led by singers from area church choirs. Refreshments will follow the event in the parish hall of the church.
In case of bad weather, the event will be rescheduled to Jan. 12.

NORTHAMPTON — The Hilltown Misfits 4H Club will be hold its 12th annual “Valentines for the Troops” drive starting on Jan. 4.
The club will collect snacks, entertainment items, and personal care items to send to local service men and women currently serving overseas.
In addition to having collection boxes out in the community, the club will be soliciting donations outside of the Northampton Walmart on Jan. 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.
HOLYOKE — Holyoke Community College will hold a special “Registration Express” event for the spring 2025 semester on Saturday, Jan. 11, when prospective students can apply for admission, take the college placement test, meet with an academic adviser, register for classes, and set up financial aid — all in one day.
HCC’s Saturday Registration Express event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and takes place on the first floor of the Campus Center on the main campus at 303 Homestead Ave. and virtually over Zoom.
The spring 2025 semester begins Tuesday, Jan 21. HCC also has Flex Start dates on Feb. 3 (Spring Start II) and March 24 (Spring Start III). Full-term spring classes run for 14 weeks. Spring Start II classes run for 12 weeks. Spring Start III classes run for seven.
