Maggie Potter smacked three hits, including a double, and No. 8 Hopkins Academy opened its postseason in style Sunday afternoon. The Golden Hawks cruised past Pathfinder, 13-3, in the MIAA Division 5 Round of 32 in Hadley.

Hopkins, which scored 11 unanswered runs after falling behind in the third inning,ย advanced to play either Narragansett or Pioneer Valley Regional in the Round of 16 on Tuesday in Hadley.

Potter drove in a pair of runs and scored three times to pace Hopkins, which also received a pair of hits from Olivia Earle.ย Isabella Bramucci doubled, drove in two runs and scored a pair, while Lily Ellia smacked a lead-off solo home run in the third inning to help the Hawks rally from a 3-2 deficit at the time.

Cassie Dion racked up nine strikeouts in the circle to earn the victory.

Girls lacrosse

Div. 4 Round of 32

No. 10 Nipmuc 19,ย No. 23 South Hadley 3 โ€“ The Tigers saw their season come to a close on Sunday, falling on the road to a powerhouse Nipmuc team in the Round of 32.

South Hadley finished its season 9-11 overall. Nipmucย will travel to No. 7 Pentucket in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

Baseball

Div. 3 Round of 32

No. 5 Bishop Stang 8, No. 28 Belchertown 0 โ€“ Ian McDonald was 3-for-3 and Thatcher Rudnik had two hits for the Orioles, which couldnโ€™t break through offensively on Sunday in a Round of 32 loss.

Belchertownย finished its season 14-6 overall, while Bishop Stang advanced to play the winner of Hanover and Holliston.

Bishop Stang pitcher Landon Cardoza tossed six scoreless inning, striking out five to go against five hits and one walk. Belchertownโ€™s Jake Waller got the start and pitched four innings, striking out two.

Div. 5 Round of 32

No. 5 Ware 10,ย No. 28 Easthampton 1 โ€“ย The Eagles played well down the stretch, but ran into a buzz-saw on Sunday night.

Ware handled its business, punching a spot in the Round of 16 thanks to a nine-run win at Memorial Field in Ware.

Easthampton, which rallied to beat Wareham in the preliminary round, finished its season 7-15 overall.

Ware advanced to play either Westport or Boston International in the Round of 16.

Boys volleyball

Div. 2 Round of 32

No. 2 Westfield 3, No. 31 Granby 0 โ€“ After advancing in a five-set thriller during the preliminary round, the Rams ran into perennial power Westfield in Saturdayโ€™s Round of 32. The host Bombers showed why theyโ€™re among the favorites to take home a state title, cruising to a 25-11, 25-14, 25-14 sweep.

Westfield will play No. 18 Pioneer Valley Christian in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

Granby finished its season 14-7 overall.

No. 5 Chicopee Comp 3, No. 28 Frontier 0 โ€“ย The 28th-seeded Redhawks were unable to pull off the upset against the No. 5 Colts on Saturday, falling 25-16, 25-10, 25-18 in the MIAA Div. 2 Round of 32.ย 

Frontier closes its season with an 8-14 record.ย 

Tavo Vincent-Warner dished 19 assists for the Redhawks, putting him over 2,000 assists for his career. Tegan Dexter finished with eight kills, Nate Rivera recorded six kills and Will Reading added four kills in the loss.ย
