200 Years Ago
- The Court of Common Pleas was holden in Northampton last week. Judge Howe presided. Thirty lawyers attended. The number of entries was 101. One civil action was tried, and one criminal. There being no other business, the court adjourned without delay.
- The ordination of Mr. Hall over the Second Society in Northampton, which was fixed for September 14, is unavoidably postponed on account of his indisposition. It will probably be deferred until the completion of their meeting house.

- Entertaining stuff of the thriller type is promised in George Larkin’s newest picture, “Midnight Secrets,” which comes to the Calvin Theater for the Sunday concert tomorrow. In this photoplay this versatile actor is seen as a star reporter on a newspaper and the picture deals with the various and sensational maneuvers he employs in digging up evidence against a band of crooked politicians, which eventually lead him to their lair.
- The YMCA building will be closed all day Monday, August 24. The reason for this is that the building will be fumigated throughout. The building will be open again on Tuesday.

- Ward 7 City Councilor Frances H. McNulty said today that she has decided not to run for mayor. “With six of the nine City Council seats being vacated or challenged this fall, there will be a significant turnover in city government,” Mrs. McNulty said. “This places a greater burden of responsibility on those of us who have had experience serving the city.”
- Bruce J. Niemczyk, of 30 Spruce Hill Avenue, said today that he is seeking the Ward 6 council seat that is being vacated by Councilor Harry S. Chapman Jr., who is running for mayor. Niemczyk, a 22-year-old student at Westfield State College who has never run for office before, said that he plans to run an active campaign.
