Frontier Regional’s Louise Flagollet won outright by 10 seconds at Chestnut Hill Community School in Belchertown on Wednesday, crossing the line with a time of 21 minutes, 56 seconds while teammate Liv Christensen was right behind with a second-place finish in 22:06.6. Phoebe Radner (seventh, 23:45.5) was Frontier’s third finisher as the Hawks girls team knocked off both PVCICS (27-29) and Belchertown (17-43) in a three-team meet. PVCICS also defeated Belchertown, 18-40.

PVCICS was led by Ellery Maier, who grabbed third place in a time of 22:09.8. Other Dragons top racers were Astrid Knyt (fourth, 22:43.4) and Eunice Lo (fifth, 22:56.8) as PVCICS had four runners in the top 10.

Belchertown’s Molly Mazzaferro (eighth) finished in 23:51.4 to pace the Orioles while Kylie Fitzgerald (11th, 24:03.6) just missed out on the top 10.

It was a close meet all around on the boys side between the three local teams. Evan Hedlund won outright for the Redhawks in a time of 17:37.9, while Frontier’s Luke Howard (18:27.3) and Dean Gray (19:08.4) rounded out the team’s top three finishers as they went 1-1 on the day. Frontier defeated Belchertown 24-31 but fell to PVCICS 26-31. The Dragons also defeated Belchertown 23-34.

PVCICS’ top three finishers were Grafton Tolopko (second, 17:56.6), Kristof Knyt (sixth, 18:57.8) and RJ Allen (seventh, 19:03.3) while Belchertown’s best runners on Wednesday were Emmett Howard (fourth, 18:22.7), Cian Lindsay (fifth, 18:25.7) and Miles McNamara (12th, 19:27.6).

Gateway 24, Easthampton 35
Gateway 15, Monson 49 (girls) —
Ava Christie won outright on Wednesday afternoon, pacing the pack through the 3.1-mile course in 25:01 to help the Gators to two victories. They defeated Easthampton 24-35 and also knocked off Monson 15-49.

Gateway’s Anya Niles (second, 25:14), Charlotte Hansen (sixth, 29:09), Autumn Clark (eighth, 30:29), Lily Peloquin (ninth, 30:47) and Nora Peloquin (10th, 30:58) also raced well in the win.

Easthampton was led by Gwen Banz’s third-place finish in a time of 27:49 while Fern Stauffer (fourth, 28:44) and Amelia Dodge (fifth, 28:50) placed in the top five for the Eagles.

McCann Tech 15, Hopkins 50 (boys) — Although the Golden Hawks didn’t field a full team on Wednesday, Deegan Austin-Dieitz set a course record on the 2.8-mile Bob Avery Course in Turners Falls. He ran a 19:39.0 to blow away the field.

Teammate Jack Johnson finished fourth with a time of 21:25.0.

McCann Tech 15, Hopkins 50 (girls) — Similar to the boys, the Golden Hawks didn’t field a full team on Wednesday, but again there was a course record to celebrate. Hopkins’ Caprial DiBartolomeo set the course record for the girls with a time of 20:59.0.

Emily Cain (fourth) also raced well for Hopkins, turning in a time of 23:51.0.

Boys soccer

Granby 1, Westfield Tech 0 — Conor Callery scored the game’s lone goal and eventual game-winner, as his first half tally assisted by Anthony Santiago put the Rams in front for good on Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel Santiago made five saves in goal in the Granby win.

SICS 2, Smith Academy 0 — Callan Payne stopped 15 of the 17 shots that came his way in a fantastic effort in the box, but the Falcons couldn’t get the ball passed Bulldogs keeper Xavier Davis.

Davis, who Smith Academy head coach Jason Duncan described as “an excellent goalie” and “legit,” made a pair of key saves late to keep Smith Academy off the board.

Girls soccer

Hampshire 6, Monument Mountain 0 — Libby Puttick was back at it again for the Raiders, as the senior netted her second hat trick of the week after putting up four goals against Amherst on Monday.

Addie Miklasiewicz tallied two goals and an assist to join Puttick with three points, Maddy Zannotti scored once and Maggie Lashway, Ellie Miller and Lila Watkins all added assists.

Karaghan Rogalski (four) and Emma Berrena (two) combined for six saves in goal.

Pope Francis 3, South Hadley 1 — The Tigers dropped their first game of 2025 with a road loss to the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. South Hadley trailed 2-1 at halftime before Pope Francis potted its decisive third goal in the second half.

Hannah Haesaert scored the Tigers’ goal on a nice feed from Allison Fleury. Olivia Athas was active in goal for South Hadley, as the sophomore snatched nine of the 12 shots Pope Francis put on goal.

Field hockey

Franklin Tech 2, Holyoke 0 — The Purple Knights suffered a shutout defeat on their home turf Wednesday evening.

Holyoke is now 0-4 and its search for win No. 1 continues.

Southwick 8, Hampshire 1 — Lily Connor scored the lone Raiders goal, assisted by Ella Pruzynski as the Raiders fell to 2-2 on the season.

Raeghan Koske (nine) and Grace Layman (six) split time in goal and combined to make 15 saves for Hampshire.

Girls volleyball

Amherst 3, Agawam 1 — After splitting the first two sets, the ‘Canes turned things up a notch to take home a four-set sweep over Agawam on their home court in Amherst.

Set scores were 25-20, 19-25, 25-17, 25-18.

Kiko Bhowmik (14) and Alyciana Hackett (10) were dominant for Amherst as the two combined for 24 kills and six aces, Olivia Nolan (five aces) and Rosalie Davis each dished out 17 assists, Ava Carey had a game-high 28 digs while Aliyah Kenney and Rowan Albertson chipped in five and four kills, respectively.

Putnam 3, Easthampton 0 — The Eagles fell 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 to Putnam on Wednesday evening at home.

Camilla Corsello had three kills, Brooke Skowron had five digs and four assists while Sophia Belfakih recorded a pair of aces for Easthampton.

Frontier 3, Westfield 2 — Long nights in the gym have filled the Redhawks’ week, as they pulled out another five-set thriller after doing so on Monday as well. Frontier lost the first two sets 23-25 and 19-25 before storming from behind to take the next three 25-19, 25-18, 15-9.

Caitlin Main put down a team-high 10 kills and added nine aces and 13 digs, Cadence Martin and Greta Hale each tallied four kills and five aces while Martin also dished out 27 assists and dug up 13 balls, while Kaelyn Johnson (13 digs) also had a strong defensive game for Frontier.

Granby 3, Libertas Academy 0 — Lea Charest and Gina Auselle led the way for the Rams as they breezed by Libertas in a sweep on Wednesday. Set scores were 25-13, 25-13, 25-5.

Charest tallied nine assists and two kills while Gina Auselle did a bit of everything, recording three kills, four digs and five aces in the win.

Ludlow 3, Belchertown 1 — A huge day from Layla Liminski wasn’t enough for the Orioles, as they dropped a four-set match to the Lions on Wednesday despite Liminski’s eight kills, nine aces and nine digs.

Kaiya Cavanaugh also had nine aces as Belchertown excelled from behind the service line. Cavanaugh added five kills and eight digs as well. Olivia Skora dished out 18 assists while Sofia Cofone recorded a team-high 13 digs in the losing effort.

Chicopee Comp 3, Holyoke 1 — It was close through three sets, but the Purple Knights eventually ran out of steam in a four-set defeat at the hands of the Colts on Wednesday.

Set scores were 25-18, 17-25, 26-24, 25-12.

Golf

Hampshire 159, Belchertown 164 — Hampshire’s Brayden Fennessy and Belchertown’s Michael Murray put on a show at Cold Spring Country Club, as Fennessy shot a 37 and Murray posted a 38 to lead all golfers on Wednesday afternoon.

Cole Boissonneault shot a 39 to complement Fennessy’s 37, while Nico Johnson (41) and Riley Florek (42) rounded out the Raiders’ scoring.

Luke Heroux shot a 40 for the Os’ next best score, and William Mitus (42) and Andrew Wright (44) scored for Belchertown as well.

South Hadley 170, Northampton 185 — The Tigers went on the road and knocked off the Blue Devils at Northampton Country Club on Wednesday. Max Sturdvant of Northampton shot the low round of the day with a 38 while South Hadley was led by Caiden Drohan’s 39.

Richie Brown of South Hadley made a stellar birdie on the par-3 7th hole after his tee shot ended up three feet from the hole.

“Winning on the road is always a good thing,” Tigers head coach Jason Bourque said. “We didn’t have our sharpest rounds, but Caiden led the way for us and I was happy to see Richie Brown be a top-four score for us. He’s been putting in the work.”

Franklin County Tech 164, Smith Vocational 179 — Three Vikings players shot 45 or better, but it wasn’t enough to outdo Eagles star Jack Day’s round of 35 on Wednesday afternoon at Wyckoff Country Club.

RJ Kaczenski (43), Keller McMahon (45), Conor Braunschweig (45) and Pat Dabrowski (46) scored for Smith Vocational.

Frontier 159, Chicopee Comp 163 — Jacob Cornelison proved to be too much for Cherry Hill Golf Course, as he shot a strong round of 36 to earn medalist honors in the Redhawks’ close win over the Colts on Wednesday.

Brady Wood (39), Addy Wood (39) and Braiden Dion (45) rounded out Frontier’s scoring.

Southwick 166, Amherst 183 — Ben Scott’s 40 was enough to tie him for first on the day, but the Hurricanes didn’t get enough production elsewhere in a loss to the Rams at Edgewood Golf Course.

Phin Pyecroft (46), Owen Howard (47) and Graham Van Giesson (50) joined Scott as Amherst’s scorers.

Field hockey

South Hadley 3, Amherst 2 — Nora Vaughn, Lily Harrington and Teagan Cavanaugh recorded goals for the Tigers, as they grabbed their second straight win on Tuesday afternoon against the Hurricanes.

Vaughn and Ella Haber dished out assists for the Tigers while goalie Sofia Cestero saved six shots.

Amherst was led by Leah Kalman and Jo Becker, who each scored once. Aria Haupt tallied an assist in the loss.
