After four straight losses to start the year, the Amherst Regional girls soccer team finally broke through with a huge 2-1 win over previously undefeated Granby on Tuesday afternoon in Amherst.
Maeve Fitzgerald had a two-point day to power the Hurricanes. Fitzgerald scored a goal and dished out an assist, while Bea Eggemeier tallied a score as well. Annika Redington grabbed 11 saves in a strong effort in the box.
“Great first win for the Lady ‘Canes,” Amherst head coach JW Benoit said. “The hard work and dedication they are putting in is paying off. Congratulations on a hard-fought victory with a full team effort.”
The Hurricanes (1-4) next host Southwick on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
Kalli White scored the lone Granby goal, assisted by Marcela Tapia. Meredith Bartosz recorded six saves in the box.
Granby (3-1-1) dropped its first game of the season, but will look to bounce back on the road against Monson at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
Easthampton 4, Greenfield 2 — Arie Kuchyt notched a hat trick as the Eagles doubled up on the Green Wave on Tuesday afternoon. Gianna Covalli also scored for Easthampton.
Liv O’Neil-Garvey dished out two assists, Covalli added a helper on one of Kuchyt’s tallies and Samone Young also had an assist. Keeper Noey Ryan made four saves in the box.
Hopkins 3, Palmer 2 — The Golden Hawks (4-0-1) have still not lost a game now five contests into the season, and a close win over the Panthers on Tuesday continues their undefeated start to the year.
Morgan Augustin, Alayna Bailey and Reese MacGregor each scored a goal while Olivia Earle tallied an assist. Abril Cabrera had five saves in goal.
Smith Vocational 2, Ware 0 — The dynamic duo of Erin Miller and Monique Fredette was on full display on Tuesday, as the two were responsible for both goals in the win.
Miller scored first on an assist from Fredette, then Fredette added a goal in the second half with Miller dishing the helper. Vikings goalie Julianis Suarez had one save in the shutout effort.
Hampshire 9, Monson 2 — It was goals galore on Tuesday night at Dorunda Field in Westhampton, as seven different players recorded a goal in the Raiders’ win.
Libby Puttick had a hat trick, and Rylee Joseph, Katie Krause, Morgan Lawler, Maggie Lashway, Addie Miklasiewicz and Meghan Wood all put home one apiece. Assists went to Puttick, Claire Pickard, Miklasiewicz (two) and Sammi Moreau.
Karaghan Rogalski and Emmy Berrena combined to make eight saves in Hampshire’s goal.
Chicopee 7, Holyoke 5 — Kyra Lippman and Leilany Figueroa combined for all five of the Purple Knights’ goals, but the Holyoke defense couldn’t slow down Chicopee on Tuesday afternoon.
Lippman had a hat trick and Figueroa scored twice, with Lippman and Egla Membreno Benitez recording assists. Jennaya Torres made six saves for Holyoke.
Athol 5, Smith Academy 0 — Vivian Higuera was under pressure all afternoon, and she stood tall with 17 big saves on Tuesday, but the Bears’ offensive persistence was too much to slow down.
Smith Academy trailed 4-0 at halftime and gave up only one across the second 40 minutes in defeat.
Lee 7, Gateway 0 — Ella Simone netted a hat trick for the Wildcats as they cruised past the Gators on Tuesday.
Gateway put a dozen shots on goal, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Keepers Teagan Campagna (13) and Evelyn Sadler (4) combined for 17 saves in the loss.
Boys soccer
Westfield 5, Holyoke 0 — The Purple Knights were held scoreless in an independent contest on Tuesday afternoon, dropping their record on the year to 2-2-1.
Field hockey
Palmer 1, Holyoke 0 — For the third straight game, the Purple Knights were held without a goal as they fell to 1-5 in 2025.
Holyoke next travels to Northampton at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Girls volleyball
East Longmeadow 3, Easthampton 1 — After dropping the first set, the Eagles picked up set No. 2 to even the match but ultimately fell in four on Tuesday evening.
Set scores were 25-13, 20-25, 25-16, 25-14.
Kaylin Dumas had six kills while nobody else had more than two for Easthampton. Summer Routhier (five aces, six digs) and Brooke Skowron (nine assists, three digs, one ace) also played well in the loss.
Amherst 3, Westfield 2 — It looked as if the ‘Canes had a sweep lined up against the Bombers after taking the first two sets, but Westfield wouldn’t go away as it forced a fifth set. Amherst hung on for the win on Tuesday evening.
Set scores were 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 27-29, 15-11.
Amherst had technical difficulties while recording stats, so they were not reported by Tuesday’s deadline.
Putnam 3, Belchertown 0 — Tuesday’s match between the Orioles and Beavers was much closer than the score showed, as Belchertown barely dropped the first set 26-24 before falling 25-16 and 25-20 over the next two.
Olivia Skora had 18 assists and five digs, Layla Liminsk impressed with four kills, three aces and three dies and Kaiya Cavanaugh added three kills and 11 digs. Klara Shaink (four kills, five digs) and Sofia Cofone (14 digs) also contributed for Belchertown.
Golf
Hampshire 162, Westfield Tech 177 — Brayden Fennessy was fantastic for the Raiders, shooting a 2-under round of 33 to earn medalist honors and pace his squad to a victory on Tuesday at Blandford Country Club.
Cole Boissonneault, Colby Cabrini and Riley Florek all shot a 43 to round out Hampshire’s scoring.
Monson 184, Easthampton 185 — It was a devastating loss for the Eagles on Tuesday at Quaboag Country Club, as they lost by one stroke to the Mustangs.
Easthampton used scores from Angelo Torchia (45), Amelia Gruber (46), Jacob Murett (46), Maeve Loring (48) and Bryce Evans (48).
Agawam 156, Northampton 172 — Five different Agawam players shot 39 or better to defeat the Blue Devils on Tuesday afternoon at Northampton Country Club.
Northampton dropped to 0-8 with the loss as its search for win No. 1 continues.
Hopkins 160, Turners Falls 179 — The Golden Hawks bounced back in a big way after a disappointing round on Monday, and Ryley Regan returned to the lineup in dominant fashion with a 2-under 33 to lead the way.
Aiden Keeling-Lococo turned in a 39 while Chace Earle (43) and Carter Styspeck (45) each played well in the win.
Chicopee Comp 177, Amherst 184 — Ben Scott tallied the second-lowest score of the day with a round of 41, but the Hurricanes couldn’t solve the tough test of Chicopee Country Club on Tuesday.
Graham Van Giesson (46) also put together a solid round for Amherst.

Girls volleyball
Granby 3, Veritas Prep 1 — Gina Auselle’s 10 kills and three aces led the way as the Rams notched a four-set victory on Monday evening.
C.J. Kibbie put down seven kills, had nine digs and recorded a team-high five aces, Audrey Pleisch dished out 14 assists while Lea Charest also had 14 assists and three kills as well.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-18, 17-25, 25-20.
