Amherst, MA – Richard “Dick” Coutts McIntire, Sr., 81, of Pemaquid, ME, formerly of Amherst, MA, and Marlborough, NH, died peacefully at his camp in Pemaquid on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Keene, NH, on November 9, 1944, the son of Percy Clarence and Edith Coutts McIntire. Dick grew up in Marlborough and later graduated from the University of New Hampshire, where he reconnected with his childhood neighbor, Juliene Croteau. They married and shared 53 years together.
Dick worked for Agway before beginning a long career with the USDA, which brought him to Nottingham, NH, and then Amherst, MA. After retirement, he fulfilled his dream of owning a camp in Pemaquid, ME. He enjoyed fishing, clamming, gardening, and making maple syrup, and was known for his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need.
He was predeceased by his wife, Juliene. Survivors include his children Melissa Telega; Jennifer McIntire and Gregory Gottschalk; and Richard McIntire, Jr., and Sharon McIntire; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brothers Donald and Jonathon McIntire; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held for Dick on November 20, 2025, from 4pm – 7pm, at the DOUGLASS FUNERAL SERVICE, 87 N. Pleasant Street in Amherst, Ma. 01002 with a reception following at The Hanger in Amherst.
