Three Hopkins Academy student-athletes signed their National Letters of Intent last week, officially committing to continue their athletic careers in college.

Lily Ellia, Matthew Vassallo and Chace Earle were the three Golden Hawks seniors to put pen to paper.

Ellia will play softball at Division III Wesleyan University next spring. Ellia is a two-time all-league selection as well as a three-time all-western mass. selection. Ellia will backstop Hopkins as its starting catcher once again this spring.

Vassallo will join Div. III Clark University’s baseball team next spring. Vassallo is a Golden Hawks’ captain and has previously been awarded all-league and all-western mass. honors. Vassallo plays shortstop and catcher for Hopkins.

Earle will suit up for Div. III Southern New Hampshire University’s baseball team next spring. Earle has already racked up 100 career hits with the Golden Hawks, while also receiving three all-league and three all-western mass. honors. Earle pitches and plays shortstop for Hopkins, plus is a two-year captain.

Northampton Parks & Recreation Men’s and Co-ed Summer Softball Leagues

The Northampton Parks and Recreation Department will hold its men’s and co-ed softball league organizational meetings for team managers on Thursday, April 2 at the Northampton Parks & Recreation Department, 100A Bridge Road, Florence, MA on the grounds of JFK Middle School.

The co-ed meeting will take place at 6 p.m., and the men’s meeting will take place at 6:45 p.m. All league information, rules and team fees will be discussed.

Anyone interested in entering a team, and all returning managers are encouraged to attend. Each team will play a 20 game regular season schedule followed by double elimination playoffs. League play will start on May 4 and will continue through July/August.
