Hatfield, MA – Gregory Wayne Bartus, age 67, of Hatfield, Massachusetts, passed away on April 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born on February 27, 1959, in Northampton, Massachusetts to Edward and Wanda (Misiaszek) Bartus.
Gregory spent his most recent working years as an HVAC technician in heating and cooling, where he earned respect for his skill, dependability, and practical knowledge. He took pride in doing a job well and was known for being someone others could count on when something needed to be fixed. He approached his work with honesty and dedication, and those qualities stayed with him throughout his life.
Outside of work, Gregory found joy in simple pleasures, especially fishing with his brother Joe and his buddy Donald Tymkowiche. Those times were treasured, not only for the pastime itself, but for the friendship, peace, and companionship they brought. He also passed on his love and knowledge of fishing to his son Frank and his godchildren Adrienne and later onto his grandnieces. Greg was a kind and humble man you could always count on to show up at backyard BBQs with a smile on his face, a cooler in hand and a few dance moves only he could perfect. Greg also enjoyed many casino trips with his wife Jody. He appreciated time spent with the people he loved, and he valued the moments that allowed him to relax, laugh, and enjoy the world around him.
Gregory was predeceased by his father, Edward Bartus, his mother, Wanda Bartus, his sister-in-law, Lucille Bartus, his brother-in-law, Ronald Nault, his nephews, Ronald Nault Jr. and Joseph Bartus Jr., his father-in-law, Ronald Kochapski, his mother-in-law, Frances Kochapski, and his brother-in-law, Ronald Kochapski Jr., and his beloved dog Tricia.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joann Kochapski Bartus, and his son, Frank Gessing (Jen Gauthier). He also leaves behind his brother, Joseph Bartus Sr., his sister, Judith Nault, his sister and brother-in-law, Robin and Ken MacDonald, his sister-in-law, Carol Dunn, and her partner, Michael Meehan, and his sister-in-law, Barb Kochapski. He is further survived by his nephews, Matt (Amy) Dunn, Nate Dunn, Dan (Lisa) Kochapski, and Teddy, as well as his nieces, Taylor Farrick, Adrienne Aubin (Michael Brozo), Sarah (Jabari) Powell, Amy (Jeff) Aldrich, Marlowe, and five loved and cherished little grand nieces, Raelynn, Ellie, Emmie, Macie, and Little Jojo.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday April 24 from 9am-10:30am at the Czelusniak Funeral Home, with an In-House Service to follow at 10:30am. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Northampton.
