AMHERST — A public hearing for the town’s review and renewal of its cable television license agreement with Comcast, a once-a-decade process, takes place Wednesday.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Room at Town Hall, with participants also able to join via Zoom. Residents are invited to provide feedback about whether the current cable operator, Comcast, is in full compliance with its currently-existing cable license, and what are the town’s future community cable-related needs.
Every 10 years, the town does this comprehensive review and renewal of its cable license. Currently, Comcast is the sole provider holding a franchise agreement to provide cable services for the town, a contract that began in October 2016 and concludes this October.
The town’s Cable Television Advisory Committee, made up of residents and
staff, provides advice and assistance in the negotiations for and compliance with the cable television license agreement as required under federal and state law.
The committee will advise Town Manager Paul Bockelman on the cable operator’s performance under the current license and assist in gathering public input about the community’s future cable-related needs and interests.
This is supporting the ascertainment phase of the license renewal that will lead to an ascertainment report. For more information, go to amherstma.gov/cable.
Any person, business or organization has the opportunity to give public comments during the hearing or submit written comments any time to cable@amherstma.gov.
