Are fireworks necessary?

For months I’ve read about the dire need to help fill local food pantries and donate to food banks. These programs face higher demands while relying on emergency reserves and state aid.

Massachusetts has food insecurity. Some towns have paused their summer breakfast/lunch programs due to the federal cuts.

Still towns will host fireworks, parades etc., Some towns have opted out due to lack of funds; inability to safely staff the events, etc.

Fireworks are expensive and dazzling. They release harmful pollutants, scatter toxic debris and panic local wildlife, including Fido and Fluffy.

Are fireworks necessary? Let’s move the fireworks off the calendar and have a big, beautiful picnic in the park!
