- One Dollar Reward! Run away from the subscriber on the 10th inst., an indented apprentice named Alonzo Clapp, 16 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light complexion and light hair. Had on when he went away a black short coat, light colored jacket, snuff-colored pantaloons and felt hat. Whoever will take up and secure the said runaway shall receive the above reward. — Clement Farnum, Northampton.
- In Deerfield last week, a son of Mrs. Jabez Wight of Norwich was severely injured by the kick of a horse. He was behind the horse holding the traces from the ground while a man was leading it to attach it to a team, when the horse kicked him in the face with such force that he was taken up for dead, though hopes of his recovery are now entertained. His features, it is feared, will always remain deformed.

- Paul Borowski of Williams Street has enrolled in the summer day course at the Northampton Commercial College. Margaret Gleason, who has just completed the normal course at the college, has accepted a position as teacher at the Spencer business college of Schenectady, N.Y. Catherine Heffernan is taking up work with the A. N. Palmer company of New York City as a critic teacher of writing.
- Local radio sets will be busy tonight, as this is “Northampton Night” at WBZ, Springfield, where Northampton entertainers will give a program of vocal and instrumental music.
50 Years Ago
- Dennis T. McKenna will remain as principal at the enlarged Jackson Street School next year, the Northampton School Committee voted yesterday. However, committee members appear to favor a different administrative structure than exists now, involving either a vice principal or co-principal.
- The Salt Box women’s clothing store at 241 Main St. will close at the end of the month. Eva Antil, the manager, said that the store was leaving its 241 Main St. location because the owner of the building, Edward Goll, plans to put another business in its place.
