- A total of 403 persons attended the season’s final performance of “Daniel Shays’ Rebellion” at Look Park last night. More than 5,000 persons saw the outdoor historical drama since its opening July 9.
- Police and a Northampton District Court judge cracked down on the open drinking of alcoholic beverages in Pulaski Park, which, police said, is threatening the city’s attempts to create a new image for the recently renovated facility. Police yesterday arrested four young men and charged them with drinking beer in the park.

- Two brothers who attended Williston Northampton School have bequeathed $1 million to their alma mater, the second largest bequest the school has ever received. David Goodman, formerly of the Philadelphia area, established the David H. (class of 1935) and Edward J. (class of 1937) Goodman Science Chair, said Adele Tonge, communication representative for Williston.
- An initiative that would allow city residents and small businesses to buy electricity at lower rates is moving ahead following discussions between city officials and the electric collaborative Hampshire Municipal Electric Cooperative. The savings could be passed on from the city, which would buy the electricity from a nonprofit wholesaler, to consumers with a year.

- Olympic silver medalist Michael Hixon had a homecoming worth cheering about Sunday night. The Amherst native was introduced before throwing out a ceremonial first pitch before a game between the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals on Sunday night at Fenway Park in Boston.
- The University of Massachusetts Amherst, with an array of choices like freshly rolled sushi, grass-fed burgers and local produce, has won The Princeton Review’s top ranking for best campus food in the nation. UMass will be among the schools featured on NBC’s “Today” show on Tuesday.
