Hadley, MA – Eleanor "Penny" Haley, age 87, of Hadley, formerly of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026 with family by her side at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. She was born in Northampton, a daughter of the late Salvatore "Toto" and Nellie (Aloisi) LoBello. Penny attended Holyoke High School and Holyoke Community College. She met her beloved husband Neil at Holyoke Country Club and they married in 1960. Their love for golf continued throughout their lives, having been members of Holyoke, Wyckoff, Orchards, and Amherst Country Clubs. In 2005, Penny and Neil began wintering in Florida at the Glades Country Club in Naples where they met many cherished friends. With a love of the outdoors, Penny had a passion for long walks, bike rides, mountain climbing, pickle ball, and golf. Penny was self- employed for 30 years in her concession business where many of her coworkers became family. In 1984, she introduced calzones at the Big E. They were well-received and inspired her to find a permanent location. With her son, Dan, they opened D.P. Dough in Amherst, MA, now a national chain with over 50 locations. Penny was so much to so many, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family and beloved grandchildren of whom she was so very proud, enjoying summer vacations, birthdays, holidays, and many of her delicious home cooked meals together. Penny was a communicant of Saint Theresa Lisieux parish in South Hadley and loved to attend daily mass. Penny is survived by her husband, Cornelius "Neil" Haley, two sons; Neil (Delilah) and Daniel Haley; a daughter, Susan O'Neill (Vincent); a sister, Susan Sullivan (Winston); her friend and matron of honor, Patricia "Pat" Haley, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear and special family members and friends. Gram was adored and admired by her four grandchildren: Deseree M. Haley, Kate E. O'Neill (Alex), Cameron C. Haley, and Thomas V. O'Neill. Besides her parents, Penny was predeceased by her brother, Leonard LoBello (Susan), brother in-law John "Jack" Haley, sister in-law Margaret "Peg" Mansfield (John), and nephew John Haley. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Cooley Dickinson Mass General Brigham hospital for their kindness and care. Friends and family are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 11am in Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church, 9 Parkview Drive, South Hadley. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
