EASTHAMPTON — A 21-year-old woman who was killed in a single motor vehicle crash early Friday has been identified as Lexani Velasquez, of Westfield.
Velasquez, a passenger, was one of two occupants of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle hit a guardrail by the Park Street rotary near Mountain View School in Easthampton, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
The driver was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for evaluation and treatment, according to a statement from the DA’s office.
First responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:15 a.m. with a preliminary investigation indicating that the vehicle was traveling on Park Street when it struck a guardrail and ultimately came to rest in the backyard of a home, according to the statement.
Melissa Sippel, a DA spokesperson, told the Gazette the incident remains under investigation and could not share further details until it concludes. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators include the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the DA’s office, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Easthampton Police Department.
