AMHERST — An attic fire at a Blue Hills Road home caused minor damage early Tuesday morning, with firefighters extinguishing the blaze before it extended beyond that part of the residence.
Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgren said the department’s nine on-duty, full-time firefighters responded to 117 Blue Hills Road, a two-story home, after receiving a 911 call at 3:40 a.m. They were joined by Amherst Police officers, with those on scene observing smoke coming from the attic vent.
A first alarm then summoned all off-duty Amherst firefighters.
The fire was located above the second-floor bathroom, with crews removing the bathroom ceiling and finding the fire burning in the roof rafters. The fire was extinguished using a hose line before firefighters checked to make sure it was contained to that area.
Power was turned off in that section of the home. Occupants were able to return to the residence about two hours after it was restored.
The building inspector also provided assistance on the scene. There were no injuries.
The cause remains under investigation, Stromgren said, with focus on the vent fan in the bathroom. The fire is not considered suspicious.
A section of Blue Hills Road, which links Northampton Road to Amity Street, was closed to traffic during the incident, reopening when crews left at 5:30 a.m.
