Hampshire County’s own Smith Vocational High School was selected among 40 high schools across the country to be Division Finalists in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition. The announcement advances Smith Voc closer to the ultimate goal of the $1 million upgrade to its football field.

Fans and those around the community can vote once a day until Oct. 25 for Smith Voc to advance to the final round. Voting can occur on FridayNight5GLights.com or the T-Life app.

If selected as the division champion, Smith Voc would earn $250,000, a Gronk Fitness gym upgrade valued at $90,000 and “The Big Deal” Student Leadership Award valued at $5,000.

Over 2,500 schools entered the the competition with only 10 chosen from four regions to advance to the next round. Smith Voc is the only New England school in the Eastern Region.

In 2025 as well as this year, Smith Voc won the preliminary award of $5,000. The selection of a division finalist earned the school an additional $25,000 plus a T-Mobile-hosted game celebration during the team’s home game against McCann Technical on Oct. 22.

“At Smith Vocational, our job is to open as many doors for our students as possible; a new athletic field will allow us to open doors in another area and offer even more opportunities for our students,” Smith Voc athletic director Anthony Sabonis said in a media release.
