NORTHAMPTON — A former Smith Academy teacher and athletic director has pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 by a mandated reporter.

Allison Slysz, 32, of Hatfield, was arraigned Thursday in Northampton District Court. She taught biology and served as athletic director at Smith Academy.

Slysz was charged after a State Police investigation into her conduct with a female student, according to Melissa Sippel, a spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office. The investigation began while Slysz was employed at the school, but she no longer works there.

The defendant, represented by Northampton attorney Jesse Adams, was released on $1,000 bail and conditions requiring her to have no contact with the victim. Both Adams and the commonwealth, represented by Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Jimenez, accepted these terms.

Adams could not be reached for comment on Friday.

Slysz is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on Dec. 9.
