NORTHAMPTON – A convicted child rapist was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to committing sexual acts against a child while on probation.
Jonathan Robert Grim, 35, of Amherst, pleaded guilty to a district attorney’s complaint charging him with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and one count of assault and battery.
He was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his probation on four counts of rape of a child from an earlier case. He received an additional five years of probation on the new charges.
The child in the most recent case was known to Grim, and was 12 to 13 years old at the time of the offenses, according to prosecutors. Grim’s probation will begin after he completes his prison sentence.
Prosecutor Lori Odierna and defense attorney Jonah Goldsmith said that the plea deal was agreed to in order to spare the survivor from going through a trial.
Judge Richard Carey declined to recommend that Grim serve his sentence at the Hampshire County Jail and House of Corrections as asked for by the defense.
