Amherst

Walter Kuo Benson, the son of Martin Benson and Naihsin Kuo, graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 14 with a degree in biology. Benson is a graduate of Amherst Regional High School. 

Florence

Alex Nunnelly received a bachelor’s degree from Providence College  in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 15. He was a political science and French double major and public administration minor.

Nunnelly received the Gerard D. ’73 and Nathanial S. ’07 Downing Award in American Politics. He was a Relay for Life co-chair and president of Phi Sigma Alpha, the national political honor society. After graduation, he will be a University of Notre Dame teaching fellow.

Abigail Ruth Stowe-Thurston, the daughter of Lisa Stowe of Florence and Michael Thurston of Leeds, graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota on May 14.  Stowe-Thurston received a degree in Russian studies and is a graduate of Northampton High School.

Hadley

Eileen Kelley earned the champion title in Level 1 Amatuer Reining at the 2016 Nutrena East  American Quarter Horse Association Level 1 Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina on May 5. 

Kelley showed her  American Quarter Horse, Howdy U Get Freckles who is a 2008 Sorrell gelding, and received a prize package that included a Montana Silversmiths belt buckle, gold trophy, neck wreath and a top-10 patch.  

Matt Waskiewicz graduated summa cum laude and with university honors from American University in Washington, District of Columbia, with bachelor’s degrees in both economics and political science.

He was inducted as a member in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He received the Outstanding Service in the University Community award for his impact on campus as editor-in-chief of “Clocks and Clouds,” AU’s undergraduate research journal of national and global affairs, as president of the student honors board, and as a resident assistant.

In 2014, he was selected for the Fulbright Wales Summer Institute, when he spent a summer in the United Kingdom studying comparative public policies.

In September he will be returning to the U.K. to study for a funded master’s degree in urban and regional development at Cardiff University.

 Matt is the son of David and Suzanne Waskiewicz, and a 2012 graduate of Hopkins Academy.

Kelley Devine graduated from Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, with a bachelor’s degree in communications with concentration in public relations. Devine is the daughter of Gerry and Denise Devine.

Hatfield

Mary Margaret Greco has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina.

Leeds

Hannah G. Krauth, daughter of Diana and Jeff Krauth, received her master’s degree in business administration from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, on May 6.

Krauth had received her bachelor’s degree with honors from The New School in New York City. She will be living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, pursuing a career in marketing management.

South Deerfield

Thomas F. Quinlan earned first place in both the Jury Award and the People’s Choice Award for PSA/Commercial at the Western New England University 14th annual Student Media Festival.

Quinlan is a junior at the university. He is a marketing/communication/advertising major.

Gabrielle C. Warren was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Alfred University in Alfred, New York. She is a sophomore in the College of Liberal Art & Sciences. 

A graduate of Frontier Regional School, she is the daughter of Kevin Warren and Bernadette Bean.

South Hadley

Brian R. Bak has been named to the spring semester dean’s list at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. Bak is a freshman studying construction management and is a member of the WIT Golf Team.

Jeffrey Deloria will receive a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Merrimack College, North Andover, on May 22.

Sunderland

Briana Cook  will receive a bachelor’s degree in human development from Merrimack College, North Andover, on May 22.

Colby-Sawyer College 

Local students who graduated from Colby-Sawyer in New London, New Hampshire, on May 7 include Olivia Lussier of Belchertown, with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies; and Stuart Aquadro of Hadley, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Local students named to the dean’s list at the college include Ethan Sanderson of Hadley, a member of the class of 2019 majoring in exercise science; and Amanda Calvo of South Deerfield, a member of the class of 2018 majoring in public health.

Emerson College 

The following local students graduated from the college in Boston on May 8.

Amherst: Isa Braun earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre studies; acting; Michal Goderez earned a bachelor’s degree in directing narrative fiction; Evan Gooden earned a bachelor’s degree in film production.

Westhampton: Alaina Belanger earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing communications.
