■Mr. A. S. Bugbee will commence the second quarter of his Select School on Tuesday next. Correct spelling, good pronunciation, graceful reading, business-hand writing, and a good, practical knowledge of numbers are indispensably necessary attainments, and to these branches the most particular attention will be paid.
■For sale, the tavern stand formerly occupied by Elias White, pleasantly situated in the center of the town of Goshen, on the main road from Northampton to Williamstown and Troy. The property will be sold cheap and immediate possession given.
■A kite flying contest will be held under the auspices of the Boys’ work department of the YMCA for all youths of the city at the Driving park on Friday afternoon. First and second prizes will be awarded for the highest flown and best made kites.
■Joseph Mew of State Street and Alden Pelton of Phillips Place left yesterday for Camp Nonotuck, the YMCA summer camp at Winchester, N.H., to spend the rest of the second two-week camping period. Mr. Pelton will be a camp leader during the session.
■Sheets of pre-cast concrete have been lowered into place on some of the 192 units of housing for the elderly under construction on Conz Street. A steel workers strike has slowed the project down in the past two weeks, with only a few tradesmen still working. The strike may put completion of the units beyond the March 15 deadline.
■Downtown businessmen asked last night that the city adopt strict new parking regulations, including higher fines and car-towing, in order to open up parking spaces for customers. The theory behind the suggestions, according to local merchants, is that many residents, employees and landlords park all day at Main Street metered spots, discouraging shoppers from coming downtown as parking spaces are always filled.
