The Belchertown baseball team needed extra innings to snatch a victory over Longmeadow on Tuesday night in a contest played under the lights at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford, Conn.

The teams were tied 2-2 following the second inning and another run wasn’t scored until the top of the eighth in what proved to be the deciding tally.

Josh Misiaszek was brilliant on the bump for the Orioles, tossing a two-hitter in seven innings with nine strikeouts. At the plate, Belchertown was led by Kamden Houle (two RBIs) and Thatcher Rudnik (double) who each slugged two hits.

Longmeadow’s Luke Costello went toe-to-toe with Misiaszek on the mound, fanning nine Orioles batters in 6 2/3 innings. The defeat counted as the Lancers’ first this season.

Belchertown (1-1) returns to action on Thursday, when it hosts Tantasqua at 4 p.m.
