NORTHAMPTON — The city is seeking residents interested in filling a vacant seat on the Northampton School Committee.

The seat opens up Friday following the resignation of Tom Baird, who represented Ward 6. He issued his letter of resignation last week, saying his family is moving to Connecticut in order for him to be closer to his workplace.

To comply with the city charter, The City Council and School Committee must hold a joint meeting within 30 days of a resignation in order to choose a replacement. That meeting is scheduled for April 13 at 6 p.m. at JFK Middle School. Candidates must be registered to vote in Ward 6. Those interested are invited to send letters of interest to City Council President Bill Dwight at bdwight@comcast.net.
