BELCHERTOWN — Races are heating up for the May 19 town election, where two seats on the Select Board and one seat on the School Committee are up for grabs.

Select Board Chair Ed Boscher and member Jen Turner’s terms end this year, and so far only Turner has taken out papers to run for reelection. The other three candidates vying for the two seats are newcomers Angela Battle, Jonathan Ritter and Ryan Rocheleau. Boscher has until Thursday to decide to join the race.

For the seat on the School Committee, two newcomers have pulled papers. They include Jacob Hulseberg, a parent of two children in the town’s school system and organizer of the Save Our Schools Belchertown group, and Northampton School Resource Officer Joshua Wallace.

The incumbent is Natalie Santana, who has yet to pull papers.

The remaining seats are uncontested. Gail Gramarossa and James Potter have pulled papers for two open Board of Health seats, and incumbent Michael Hofler will run to keep his place on the Planning Board.

So far, no one has pulled papers for one, five-year term and two, four-year terms on the Housing Authority, and one seat on the Board of Assessors for a three-year term.
