NORTHAMPTON – Teagan McDonald tabbed her 100th career goal in the Northampton girls lacrosse team’s 14-5 win over South Hadley on Tuesday at Northampton.
McDonald scored with less than 10 seconds remaining during the first half to reach the milestone. The Blue Devils senior secured five goals in the victory against the Tigers – Northampton’s third consecutive win.
“It’s super exciting, especially my senior year, it’s a good way to end off,” McDonald said on reaching the century mark. “It’s nice because all my teammates were part of it and I’m glad we had it at home so everyone got to see it. It’s special.”
McDonald, a midfielder, used her speed and skill to quickly move up the field with time ticking down during the first half, eluded a couple South Hadley defenders, then snapped home the crowing goal to put her team ahead, 10-3, at the break.
“It’s too much to think about so it was nice to get it over with [early in the game],” McDonald said.
Northampton (4-1) sprinted out to a 6-1 lead by the end of the first quarter, putting South Hadley in a hole it never could climb out of.
“They’re a good team. They’re overall really good,” Tigers head coach Danielle Clark said. “We’re young this year. We have four seniors, we had no juniors play tonight, the rest of our team is really all freshmen, so this year is really about building the program back up and coming together. At the start we really fell behind.”
Five different South Hadley players found the back of the opposing net in this one, while Margaret Watkins snagged eight draw controls. Caitlin Dean and Raquel Losty were among the Tigers’ goalscorers.

South Hadley (1-4) hung tough in the third quarter as it equaled Northampton in goals (2-2) to make it 12-5 heading into the final frame. However, the Blue Devils kept the Tigers off the board over the final 12 minutes and added a couple of their own, bringing it to a 14-5 final.
“[Watkins], she’s really strong in the draw, but I think their drives were really hard,” Clark said. “I think our defense just wasn’t ready for that pressure. I think we had a lot of holes in our defense, which made it hard for us to stop.”
Freshman Willa Camp (goal) played well for South Hadley on both sides of the field, but particularly on the defensive end as the youngster managed well with her defensive assignments.
“She had a really great game, she played really good defense,” Clark said. “It was really cool to see her step up on one of their best players.”
For Northampton, Imanni Power-Greene nearly eclipsed the 100-goal mark as a junior with her four-goal performance. Power-Greene needed a fifth to join her teammate, but couldn’t find the back of the net again. Makayla Fydenkevez (two goals, two assists) and Kayden Braman (goal, assist) also tallied multi-point efforts for the Blue Devils.
“I think our team is going to have a really successful season,” McDonald said. “We all have the same mindset where we want to win because we know we can win and I think that’s going to lead us to a successful season. If we keep starting out in these games, I think that’ll lead to a successful season.”
McDonald wasn’t the only player to reach a milestone Tuesday as Tigers’ sophomore goalie Riley Nestor got to 200 career saves in the defeat. Nestor walked off the field following the final buzzer with nine saves to her credit, while Blue Devils goalie Ainsley Dawson pocketed 11 saves in the win.
Northampton will be back in action a week from Tuesday with a road game at Belchertown. South Hadley next plays Thursday at home versus Mount Greylock.
