GRANBY — A fire tore through a barn on Morgan Street Sunday afternoon, ultimately resulting in a complete loss of the structure and its contents.

Granby firefighters were alerted to the fire at 87 Morgan St. at around 2:40 p.m., and arrived at the scene to find the second floor of the barn fully engulfed in flame, interim Fire Chief Russ Anderson said. The fire was brought under control within the hour. The barn sits at the rear of the property, far enough away from the main house to not endanger it. No one was injured in the fire.

“Initially there were numerous calls to dispatch about the large columns of smoke in the air,” Anderson said.

Anderson said the cause of the fire is still under investigation by State Police, but the fire is believed to be accidental.

The box alarm on the second floor of the building alerted the Granby Fire Department and surrounding departments with mutual aid agreements with the town who responded, including South Hadley District 1 and District 2, Belchertown, Westover Air Force Base, Amherst and Hadley.

According to a Granby Fire Department social media post, there were enough fire hydrants in the area to supply water without a tanker shuttle.
