H.S. Roundup: Owen Babb lifts Frontier boys basketball past West Springfield

Frontier’s Owen Babb was a problem for the West Springfield boys basketball team on Tuesday at Goodnow Gymansium.

Babb finished the game with 21 points, as the Redhawks pulled ahead 33-14 at the half and pulled away with a 61-48 non-playoff win over the Terriers in South Deerfield. 

Nico Fasulo tallied 18 points while Max Millette scored 10 points in the victory.

Sitting at nine wins on the season, Frontier travels to Commerce on Thursday with a chance to clinch a spot in the state tournament.

Boys basketball

Hampden Charter East 84, Smith Voc 70 — Miles Chinappa’s 21 points weren’t enough to get the job done, as the Vikings fell to Hampden Charter on Tuesday. 

Domeniq Sanchez scored 16 points while Jack Riley added 15 points for Smith Vocational. 

Girls basketball

McCann Tech 35, Smith Voc 33 — The Hornets outscored the Vikings 6-3 in the fourth to come away with a victory in Northampton on Tuesday.

Makayla Tatro led the way with 12 points, Sofia Zina tallied seven points while Jayanna Daniels and Julianis Suarez each had six points for Smith Vocational. 

East Longmeadow 52, Belchertown 26 — The Spartans took a 23-4 lead after eight minutes to pull away from the Orioles on Tuesday in Belchertown. 

Morghan Litz scored 13 points while Chloe Laroche added eight points for Belchertown. 

Boys hockey

Minnechaug 4, Easthampton 1 — Mikey Thompson had the lone Eagle goal in a loss to the Falcons on Tuesday in Easthampton. 

Hunter Stockseth had an assist while Paige Galpin made 26 saves for Easthampton.
