HS Roundup: Smith Academy’s Harry LaFlamme tosses no-hitter in win over Mahar

Smith Academy pitcher Harry LaFlamme was on fire on the mound against Mahar on Monday in Hatfield.
The junior tossed a seven inning no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking just one as the Falcons cruised to a 5-1 Bi-County League North victory.
It was the first win of the season for Smith Academy (1-2).
“Them getting over the hump and getting a win is something these guys needed to see,” Falcons coach Jacob Butler said. “I’m very confident that as we go on this season, we’ll win some more. Hats off to Harry with the no hitter. Hitting, base running, taking advantage of the smaller parts of the game were all key.”
After both teams scored in the first inning, the Falcons put three on the board in the second and tacked one on in the sixth to preserve the victory.
LaFlamme helped himself with a pair of hits at the plate, Darren Caney finished with two hits and an RBI, Ryan McCoy doubled and drove in two runs while Garrett Willard doubled in the winning effort.
Easthampton 4, Monson 2 — A three-run first inning pushed the Eagles to win No. 1 on the season. Ethan Mullaly had two hits and two RBIs to lead Easthampton, while Hunter Motalvo-Greene struck out 11 in the complete-game victory.
Smith Voc 15, Commerce 0 (5) — James Lavallee struck out eight of the first nine batters he faced on the mound for the Vikings. Lavallee was taken out after three innings in Smith Voc’s third win of the season.

Corey Kirkendall mashed three hits for the Vikings, while Jared Baer and Kaleb Jorritsma each contributed two hits.
Hampshire 14, Granby 1 — Vynce Carr (three RBIs) and Joe Moro (two hits, two RBIs) swung the bats well for the Raiders in the big victory over the Rams. Ethan Kudelka picked up the win for Hampshire on the bump, striking out five with no walks.
Gavin Kennedy (double) and Anthony Misiaszek (RBI) reached base for Granby.
Southwick 8, Holyoke 6 — The Purple Knights failed to hold on to a 3-0 lead in its fifth-straight loss. Aiden Robinson drove in two runs for Holyoke while Justin Rivera (three runs scored) and Nolan Judd recorded a pair of hits.
Greenfield 10, South Hadley 0 — The Tigers were limited to five hits in their third loss in a row.
Logan and Gavin Carpenter each managed hits for South Hadley.
West Springfield 10, Belchertown 5 — Joshua Misiaszek’s two hits — highlighted by a double — wasn’t enough as the Orioles dropped to 1-3.
The Terriers tore the cover off the ball, concluding the game with 17 hits.
Monument Mountain 22, Amherst 1 — The 'Canes fell to 1-5 in the home loss.
Ware 5, Frontier 1 — Ware led 3-0 going into the seventh before tacking two insurance runs in the top of the frame to defeat the Redhawks in an independent contest in South Deerfield Monday.
Ben Caron, Brady Poreda, Austin D’Urso, Kaden James, Braeden Dion, Collin West and Jack Cusson each singled in the loss for Frontier.
Gateway 11, Putnam 5 — The Gators doubled up on the Beavers in a home victory on Monday afternoon.
Gateway’s season-high in runs and a combined seven hits from Cole Przybyla (4-for-4, three singles, triple, two runs) and Theo DeAngelis-Page (3-for-4 three singles, two runs) helped them improve to 2-1 this spring.
Chicopee Comp 21, Northampton 10 — The Blue Devils only trailed 11-9 after five innings, but the Colts erupted for 10 runs in the top of the sixth to pull away on Monday afternoon.
Aiden Keeling-Lococo blasted a home run for Northampton while Matthew Baird tallied three hits.
Hopkins 3, Turners Falls 2 — Isabella Bramucci cracked a couple of hits for the Golden Hawks —including an RBI triple – in their third straight win. Bramucci and Olivia Earle (RBI single) guided Hopkins on offense while pitcher Cassandra Dion struck out five Thunder batters.
Turners Falls’ MadiLiimatainen fanned 12 Golden Hawks batters in the loss.
Northampton 16, Mahar 0 (5) — Greta Lepore was fabulous in the circle for the Blue Devils, striking out 12 and allowing just one hit and one walk.
Northampton scored eight runs during the fifth inning to enact the mercy-rule after already leading 8-0.
Jayda Alejandro and Haly Doucette-Kaplan each managed two hits. The Blue Devils recorded 17 stolen bases to move their record to 2-3.
Monson 12, Easthampton 0 — The Eagles lost their fourth straight game after beginning the season 1-0.
Easthampton looks to right the ship on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against West Springfield at Nonotuck Park.
Longmeadow 2, South Hadley 0 — A pair of fourth inning runs were all that the Lancers needed against Tigers ace Ella Schaeffer and South Hadley on Monday afternoon in Longmeadow.
Samantha LaFlesh tallied the lone hit for the Tigers. Schaeffer struck out 14 and gave up only four hits in the loss.
Lenox 24, Amherst 0 — For the third straight game, the Hurricanes gave up at least 23 runs as they dropped to 0-6 this season.
Next up for Amherst is a road game against Gateway on Wednesday.
Amherst 6, Pope Francis 5 — Silas Hazen notched a hat trick and Tri Nguyen scored twice as the Hurricanes knocked off Pope Francis in a physical, low-scoring battle on Monday.
Tre Bowman scored a goal, Brian Cruz dished out two assists and Jason Kim stopped 11 shots in goal to aid Amherst in the win.
Hoosac Valley 12, Belchertown 6 — The Orioles were doubled up by the Hurricanes on Monday, dropping their 2025 record to 2-2 after starting the season with two straight victories.
Belchertown hopes to get back on track on Tuesday against McCann Tech.
Northampton 17, Granby 4 — Add the Rams to the list of teams the Blue Devils have handled so far this season. Northampton is now 4-0 and has won three straight games by double digits.
Keller Mahoney recorded a huge eight-point (five goals, three assists) outing, Jackson Oravec netted five goals himself, Bryce McGinn-Stevens added three goals and Jack Carpenter notched four points (goal, three assists) in Northampton’s win.
Granby 12, Chicopee Comp 10 — Kalli White's six goals propelled the Rams to its second victory of the season. Kelly-Lynne Kennedy (two goals, assis) and Ava Elizabeth Loughman (hat trick) racked up points for Granby.
The Colts got four goals from Olivia Warren.
Amherst 12, Pope Francis 8 — Kiko Bhowmik tallied her 100th career goal in the ‘Canes come-from-behind victory. Bhowmik finished the game with six goals to lead Amherst, while Ava Carey (two goals, assist), Ursula Lundquist (three assists), Zoey Candito (two goals), Claire Kennedy (two assists), Emilia Leutjen (goal, two assists) nabbed multi-point efforts.
The Hurricanes trailed 5-4 at halftime, but outscored the Cardinals 8-4 in the final 24 minutes. Amherst goalie Eden Polak posted 17 saves.
Hampshire 18, Central 5 — Mary Thibault put up a monster seven-point afternoon and Emmie Collins added five goals as the tandem was too much for the Golden Eagles to handle on Monday in Westhampton.
Reese O’Connell, Rylie Simmons and Hailey Paszko each scored two goals for Hampshire as well.
Putnam 3, Belchertown 1 — Monday’s match between the Orioles and Beavers was much closer than the final score indicated, as Belchertown scored at least 20 points in each set but still fell in four.
Set scores were 28-26, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23.
Noah Yankson recorded 10 kills for the Os and Gabriel Ibekilo put down seven while Colin Mullen (12) and Nicholas Ibekilo (11) combined for 23 assists. Brian Burns had five kills and two aces.
Chicopee 3, Holyoke 1 — A four-set defeat snapped the Purple Knights’ two-game winning streak on Monday afternoon in Holyoke.
Longmeadow 3, Granby 0 — For the first time this spring, the Rams dropped a volleyball match as the Lancers beat them 25-17, 25-23, 25-14 on Monday night.
Granby’s Jake Gagnon (seven) and Nathan Walsh (six) combined for 13 kills, Brandon Chatel had nine digs and two kills and Gagnon dished out a dozen assists as well.
Frontier 3, Lee 2 — Oliver Brown earned a 6-2, 6-4 win in No. 3 singles, becoming the all-time wins leader in Frontier program history with 21 as the Redhawks earned the program’s first ever win over the Wildcats on Monday in South Deerfield.
It was a singles sweep for Frontier, as Brayden Reipold took No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-0 while Casey Bestler won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles to earn the win for the Redhawks.
Frontier 4, Palmer 1 — Kayla Fagan earned a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles while Aylen Shaw walked away with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph in No. 3 singles for the Redhawks, who beat the Panthers on Monday in Palmer.
Esther Ehle and Jimin Ahn came back to win 5-7, 7-6 (10-7) in No. 1 doubles while Brooke Charest and Hailey Fernandez earned a 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6) win in No. 2 doubles for Frontier.
Longmeadow 5, Belchertown 0 — The Orioles lost their first match of the season to drop to 6-1.
Mia Corish and the first doubles team of Gianna Picardi and Katie Collins each forced three sets in their defeats.
Amherst 5, Ludlow 0 — What a showing it was from the Amherst girls tennis team on Monday afternoon, as the ‘Canes raced to a sweep over the Lions on their home courts.
Katie Gromacki (first singles 6-0, 6-0), Emma Learned-Miller (second singles 6-1, 6-3) and Mahima Ganesan (third singles 6-0, 6-0) picked up wins as did Elena Ruiz and Aliya Osman (first doubles 6-2, 6-4) and Cynthia Tian and Janaki Ewoton (second doubles 7-5, 6-1).
Baseball
Amherst 8, Chicopee 4 — The Hurricanes picked up their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon in Amherst, doubling up on the Pacers behind Greg King’s complete-game.
King gave up just one hit and three earned runs over his seven innings of work, striking out eight Chicopee batters and walking only one. Brady Klaes collected two hits and drove in three runs at the plate while Colin Beganny tallied a pair of hits as well.
