The South Hadley softball team doubled their win total on the season in its 11-0 victory over Easthampton on Friday in South Hadley.

The Tigers (2-1) tallied nine hits and drove in seven of its total 11 runs. Zivile Pagan posted two RBIs on one base knock while Ella Schaeffer blasted a triple and double for two RBIs for South Hadley.

Schaeffer was fantastic in the circle for the Tigers as well, striking out nine Easthampton batters while walking just one, to earn the win.

South Hadley’s fifth inning was its best as it scored four runs, before tacking on two more in the sixth.

The Tigers are back in action Tuesday at West Springfield.

Smith Academy 25, Mahar 13 — Caitlin Graves and Alexa Jagodzinski powered the Falcons to their first win of 2025. Graves and Jagodzinski each belted grand slams and combined for 11 RBIs.

Smith pitcher Quinn Carlson concluded with three strikeouts.

Northampton 27, Amherst 1 — The Blue Devils scored 13 runs in the first inning to cruise past the Hurricanes.

Jayda Alejandro smacked a home run and scored a team-high five runs, while Talia Garretson had two hits and three RBIs. Greta Lapore grabbed 10 strikeouts for Northampton.

Corinne Charlebois contributed a double for the Hurricanes.

Hampshire 4, Agawam 2 — Ryanne Dubay struck out nine batters and allowed only three hits to help the Raiders to a win on Friday night. CC Thayer went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored a run.

Tegan Charles collected a pair of hits including a 2-run home run that set the tone in the first inning. Kalin Dubay went 3-for-3 and scored twice in the Hampshire win.

Ware 6, Holyoke 5 – The Purple Knights dropped their first game of the season in the tight loss to the Indians.

Shelby Hogan had two hits for Ware while Reese McKeever compiled a pair of RBIs.

Baseball

Frontier 12, Amherst 3 — Max Skribiski-Banack struck out seven over five innings and scattered just one hit to help the Redhawks improve to 4-0 with a road win over the Hurricanes on Friday. 

Greenfield 5, Easthampton 3 — The Green Wave took their season-opener off a strong game from Logan Moore. Moore recorded two of Greenfield’s five total hits, including a triple.

The Eagles were led by Christian D’Onofrio and Jake Kostek, who each totaled one RBI.

Taconic 9, Holyoke 3 — Justin Rivera tallied two hits and an RBI to lead the Purple Knights’ offense, but the powerhouse Thunder scored six unanswered runs to pull away from a 3-3 tie and hand Holyoke a loss.

Nolan Judd added an RBI for the Knights as well.

Minnechaug 3, Belchertown 0 — Joshua Misiaszek fanned eight batters, but the Orioles’ offense struggled to score in the shutout loss. Belchertown had four hits, while Minnechaug scored three runs on three hits.

Minnechaug scored once during the second inning, then added two more during the fifth to seal the victory.

Boys tennis

Boston Latin Academy 4, PVCICS 1 — Lee Ferguson won at first singles 6-3, 6-2 for the Dragons’ only win of the afternoon as they traveled out to Boston for an independent contest.

PVCICS won a game in every other match but failed to pick up any match victories.

Girls tennis

PVCICS 4, Frontier 1 — The second doubles team of Brooke Charest and Hailey Fernandez captured the point for the Redhawks, as they were 6-1, 6-3 winners on Friday.

Esther Ehle and Kayla Fagan dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision at No. 1 doubles for Frontier.

Belchertown 3, Ludlow 2 – The Orioles’ doubles teams of Katie Collins and Edith Audette, plus Allie Randall and Emma Kornbluth, came up clutch for the hosts. Gianna Picardi (6-3, 6-3) was the only Belchertown player to claim a singles match, but the Orioles won both doubles matches to remain perfect (4-0) as a team.

Amherst 4, Longmeadow 1 — The Hurricanes’ doubles teams continue to thrive this season, as Aliya Osman and Daniella Sherman (first doubles, 6-0, 6-1) and Elena Ruíz and Cynthia Tian (second doubles, 7-5, 6-2) propelled Amherst to a win.

Emma Learned-Miller (6-1, 6-0) and Mahima Ganesan (6-1, 6-0) picked up dominant singles wins to round out the ‘Canes day.

Girls lacrosse

Northampton 12, Minnechaug 5 – Four goals during the first and fourth quarters pushed the Blue Devils to victory on Friday. 

Teagan McDonald had four tallies of her own while teammates Imanni Power-Greene and Makayla Fydenkevez each netted a hat trick. Goalie Alexa Rodrigue finished with nine saves for Northampton.

Agawam 13, Belchertown 3 — McKenzie LePage, Lily Tellier and Lia Pikul scored the Orioles’ goals in a loss on Friday night.

Boys lacrosse

South Hadley 12, Wahconah 2 — Six goals from Rush Camacho led the Tigers to their first win of the season on Friday. Camacho also finished with 16 shots and two ground balls.

Averey Haber (goal, four assists) and goalie Brayden Blais (seven saves) also played well South Hadley.

Boys volleyball

Frontier 3, Putnam 0 — Nate Rivera put down 10 kills and Will Reading added seven to lift the Redhawks to an impressive 25-16, 25-16, 25-21 sweep on Friday night at Goodnow Gymnasium.

Tavo Vincent-Warner racked up 21 assists and 11 digs to aid the Frontier cause.

Central 3, Belchertown 0 — Noah Yankson and Brian Bruns combined for 10 kills, but it wasn’t enough to get past the Golden Eagles on Friday night.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 25-9.

Colin Mullen dished out 11 assists while Gabriel Ibekilo had four kills and four blocks in the loss.
