The Holyoke girls basketball team had its hands full on Monday night, hosting Springfield International Charter School for the two teams’ first of a pair of meetings this season. Despite a strong effort early on, the Bulldogs overwhelmed the Purple Knights en route to a 66-28 Holyoke loss on its home floor.

Kiara Perez played well for the Knights, as she put up a team-high 15 points – including 13 across the second and third quarters. Kylie Blaha (six) and Evangeline Cauley (five) combined for 11 points while Janessa Torrez tossed in two.

Former Amherst Regional standout Niyama Adadenoh scored a game-high 17 points for SICS, as she transferred there after last year.

Holyoke (1-7) next hosts West Springfield on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Northampton 59, West Springfield 27 — Four players scored 14 points or more in a dominant Blue Devils showing on Monday night, led by Bri Heafey’s team-high 15 points.

Emme Calkins, Liv Joensen and Anna Oravec all scored 14 points apiece for Northampton as well, as they out-scored West Springfield 21-7 in the second quarter to pull away.

Baystate Academy 39, PVCICS 19 — The Dragons failed to score more than eight points in a quarter, and scored only 11 through three as they lost to Baystate on Monday.

Yaniris Alavarado scored a game-high 14 points for the Bulls.

Smith Vocational 53, Westfield Tech 17 — The Vikings held Westfield Tech to less than 10 points in all four quarters, including a 19-2 opening frame that set the tone the rest of the way.

Smith Voc is an impressive 6-2 this season.

Hampden Charter 42, Gateway 20 — The Gators struggled on both ends of the floor in a 22-point loss on Monday night.

Gateway drops to 2-6 on the year.

South Hadley 73, Hoosac Valley 48 — The Tigers put everything on display on Monday night, scoring over 70 points while giving up less than 50.

Cara Dean led the balanced offensive attack with 14 points, her sister Caitlin Dean was one point behind with 13, Olivia Athas added 10 points and Kate Phillips and Taylor Bullough each scored eight.

Pope Francis 44, Belchertown 37 — Chloe LaRoche scored a game-high 18 points for the Orioles, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinals evened the season series with Belchertown.

Aubrey Klingensmith tossed in eight points for the Os.

Hopkins 31, Greenfield 30 — The Golden Hawks snuck out a big win on the road as they beat the Green Wave by one point in Greenfield.

The win snaps a five-game skid and is Hopkins’ first since Dec. 20 (Athol).

Boys basketball

Belchertown 66, Chicopee 60 — The Orioles responded from consecutive losses with a road win over Chicopee on Monday night.

Belchertown is now one game over .500 on the year (5-4).

Late weekend results

Girls basketball

South Hadley 45, Amherst 9 — All 14 Tigers players who suited up scored at least once on Friday night, as South Hadley held Amherst to under 10 points for the second time this season.

Caitlin Dean, Cara Dean, Ava Asselin and Olivia Athas each scored five points for South Hadley, while Amherst’s Keira Cunniffe scored a team-high four points.

Belchertown 44, Mount Greylock 37 — The Orioles notched their third straight win on Friday night, sweeping the season series with the Mounties behind a seven-point home victory.

Chloe LaRoche put up a team-high 13 points followed by 11 points from Morghan Litz. Logan Moses chipped in seven for Belchertown.

Boys basketball

Granby 59, Ware 46 — NeNe Fernandez erupted for a game-high 28 points to pace the Rams in a decisive win over Ware on Saturday afternoon.

Riley Goodhind (13 points), Sawyer Clarke (seven points) and Cody Breault (six points) all contributed for Granby as well.

Nordic skiing

The Amherst Regional nordic ski teams placed second (girls) and third (boys) in this past Saturday’s Berkshire League 5.8k race. The ‘Canes girls tied with Lenox as the runners-up while the boys came in third, moving up from a fifth-place finish two weekends ago.

Mount Greylock won the girls race and Wahconah won the boys race.

Addie Mager led the Amherst girls with a fourth-place finish in 20:12, Elizabeth Sawicki came in fifth shortly after with a time of 20:34 and Isla Cusick took 12th in 21:39. On the boys side, Calvin Miller crossed the line fifth (17:15), Ian Burns slid into eighth place in 17:29 and Otis Fairey grabbed 13th with a time of 17:56.

Mohawk Trail’s top finisher on the boys side was Luke Pickard (25th, 19:06) and the Warriors’ top girls finishers were Charlotte Niswonger (sixth, 21:24) and Corrine Somes (seventh, 21:30). PVCICS’ top finisher of the day was Stephen Sims (24th, 18:59).
