Indoor track: Amherst 4x400 relay team captures title at MIAA Meet of Champions

The Amherst girls 4x400-meter relay team of Ololara Baptiste, Skylar Fox, Emilia Luetjen and Moriah Luetjen won the event in a time of 4 minutes, 1.49 seconds to highlight area runners competing at Saturday’s Meet of Champions at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
The Hurricanes foursome entered as the top-seeded squad, yet performed even better than expectations, coming in nearly four seconds faster than their entry time and beating 21 other teams.
The Amherst girls 4x200 relay team was also the No. 1 seed, however the Hurricanes finished in fourth in that event with a time of 1:46.35.
Angel Hernandez claimed the boys wheelchair shot put title for Amherst, recording a distance of 9 feet, 5 inches. Logan Alfandari took third in the weight throw (63 feet, 5.75 inches) and fourth in the shot put (54 feet, one inch) for the Hurricanes.
Owen Platt, Peter Nedeau, Myles Redington and Nicolas Lisle made up Amherst’s 4x800 relay team, which crossed in 18th place.
Holyoke’s Yasani Thompson competed in three girls events, taking fourth in the 300-meter race (40.53 seconds), sixth in the 55-meter race (7.30 seconds) as well as the 55-meter preliminaries.
